JV Mounties lose to Crest Kings Mountain High's JV baseball team was within one pitch of defeating 4-A Crest High School in its opening baseball game Monday after- noon at Lancaster Field. ... But Crest pitcher Jason Hamrick slammed a 1-2 pitch over the fence for a 3-run home the visiting run to give Chargers a 6-5 victory. "We were getting ready to shake their hands," said new KM Coach Scott Early. "It was a tough loss. But our kids played as good as I could ask them to play. They went out there against a good 4-A team and re- ally impressed me." Until = that point, the Mountaineers pretty much had things going their way. Sophomore pitcher Clay Phillips went the distance, scat- tering 10 hits and striking out nine. Kings Mountain didn't trail until the winning home run, even though Crest did battle from behind once to tie the game at 2-all. The Mountaineers got their offense going early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Chad Jones singled, stole second and scored on a double by Phillips. The Mountaineers added an- other run in the second for a 2-0 lead. Brandon Putnam drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a single by Jason Bridges. Crest put together three con- secutive hits to score two runs and tie the game at 2-all in the fourth. But Kings Mountain came right back in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead on singles by Jones and Phillips, and a two-run double by Brad Bridges. The Mountaineers travel to Crest Thursday for a 4 p.m. game and open Southwestern 3- A Conference play next Monday at Burns. because no other orthopaedi practice in our region offer: greater depth of specialized | REGISTRATION COTTONTAIL PARADE Deadline for parade entries March 20, 1897 costume, or yourself, in your Easter Finery.
