Page 2A Obituaries JAMES P. BROCK ELIZABETHTON, TN. James Pink Brock, 77, died Sunday, March 16, 1997 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Asheville, NC, he was the son of the late Haskins Pink and Dora Garrison Brock. He was a retired employee of the City Water Department of Kings Mountain, NC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hilard Brock; and a sister, Grace Warren. Survivors include three sons, James Wayne Brock of Hamilton, Ohio, Ronald Eugene Brock of Elizabethton, and Spencer Pink Brock of Fairfield, Ohio; three daughters, Linda Lou Brock of Fairfield, Ohio, Patricia Ann Smith of Southport, NC, and Reginia Brandon of Gastonia, NC; one sister, Mildred Eppley of Asheville, NC; 14 grandchil- dren and 11 great-grandchil- dren. The funeral was conducted at 12 noon Tuesday, March 18 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Homes. Graveside ser- vice and interment followed in the V.A. National Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Holly offi- ciating. Military honors were accorded by the V.EW. Captain Lynn H. Folsom Post 2166. HELEN E. ALLEN KINGS MOUNTAIN - Helen Etters Allen, 79, a resident of Royal Oaks Assisted Care Center, Sanford, NC, died March 14, 1997 in Sanford. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Robert Darvin and Clara Lee Wright Etters. She was a mem- ber of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain, and was retired from Mauney Hosiery Mill, Kings Mountain. She is survived by her daugh- ter, Janice Allen Drury and hus- band Walter of Sanford; sister, Ruth Mitcham of Shelby; three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Albert F. and Margaret Gamble Hudson. She was a member of Garrison Memorial ARP Church in Bessemer City. She is survived by her sisters, Pauline Stroup and Leona Mitchell of Bessemer City, Margaret Caldwell of Gastonia and Mildred Rhyne of Charlotte; brothers, Thomas R. Hudson of Gastonia and Don Hudson of Charlotte; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service was con- ducted by the Rev. David Ellis at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Gastonia. LOUISE COBB BLACKSBURG, SC - Louise Patterson Cobb, 80, 140 Martin Ridge Road, died Tuesday, March 18, 1997 at her residence. A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of the late Lawson Cobb, and daughter of the late Ben Cobb and Della ‘Parker Patterson. She was a re- tired textile employee and a member of Christian Fellowship Church. Surviving are four sons, Carl Cobb of Blacksburg, Jake Cobb of Kings Mountain, Joe Lee Cobb of Raleigh and C.J. Cobb of Mechanicsville, VA; two daughters, Sally ‘Ham of Blacksburg and Linda Wilson of Gaffney; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Willie Lanier at 3 p-m. Thursday at Christian Fellowship Church. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Scranton, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Louis and Carrie Mixon Lee. He was a retired District Manager for Southland Life Insurance Company of Conway, SC, Certified Life Underwriter, and owned rental properties at Myrtle Beach, SC. He was a Mason and a member of First United Methodist Church of Laurens. He is survived by his wife, Uneda Godwin Lee of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and G. Curtis Moore of Hickory Tavern, Elizabeth and Teddy R. TX, and Carolyn and Dean B. Westmoreland of Grover; a sis- ter, Mrs. Hubert Rolfe of Greenville, SC; three grandchil- dren, Bonnie Fant Nations of Hickory Tavern, Robert Lowe of Fort Worth, TX, and Lisa Lowe of Shiner, TX; two great-grand- children, Charles Nations and Phillip Nations of Hickory Tavern; and two step-grandchil- dren, Curtis Moore Jr. of Waterloo and Donna Stroud of Greer. A native of Morganton, he was the son of the late Elbert Franklin and Susie Mae Armstrong Payne. He was a re- tired Director of Christian Ministry, a Mason and a mem- ber of the V.EW. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his sons, Nelson Payne of Atlanta, Ga., and Dana Payne of Brevard; daughter, Susan Payne of Gastonia; sister, Grace Fuller of Gastonia; and three grandchil- dren. ; A graveside service was con- ducted by Father George Kolster at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. HAZEL THOMPSON KINGS MOUNTAIN - Hazel Allen Thompson, 96, 139 Candlewood Drive, died March 12, 1997 at White Oak Manor. A native of Florida, Mass. she was the daughter of the late William and Cheney Beers Allen and wife of the late William Haven Thompson Jr. ‘She was a retired nurse. She is survived by her son, William Thompson III and wife Patricia of Kings Mountain, and Allen C. Thompson and wife Mary of Vestal, NY; 10 grand- children and nine great-grand- children. GENELLE THRIFT GROVER - Genelle Ross Thrift, 89, 2343 Sylvan Road, died Sunday, March 16, 1997 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John and Missouri Ross, and wife of the late Hillard William Thrift. She was also preceded in death by her sons, Harold Dean Thrift, Charles Thrift, David Lee Thrift, Hillard Thrift Jr. and Richard Thrift; and her daughter, Alma Thrift Carpenter. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Bobby Thrift and wife Libby of Shelby, J.T. He was a mem- ber of West Gate Lodge #738, Oasis Temple Scottish Rite Free Masonry, Sixth Armored Division Association, N.C. Task Force and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a veteran of World War II.
