Hamrick has been named Teacher of the Month at Kings Mountain Middle School. Hamrick holds a B.A. i n Psychology from UNC- Chapel Hill Gime ete and a Master HAMRICK of Education in School Counseling from Winthrop University. Prior to becoming a Counselor at KMMS she served as City. Her goal is to teach school af- ter graduation from Winston- Salem State Teacher's College where she has been accepted for the fall term. Kathy Goforth, who instructs computer applications, says of Jamie, "Jamie starts my day with a positive attitude. She is a hard worker and a good stu- 5 denf’and Lenjoy having her in | my class.” Michelle Sivy, who instructs Chemistry II, said of Brooks, "Jamie is very enthusiastic about all aspects of school. She is very strong in her academics and she contributes significant- ly to our school and is truly a joy to teach." Sally Hendricks, who in- structs Algebra III, said of Brooks, "I thoroughly enjoy teaching Jamie. Not only is she an excellent student but she is also a nice person and she brightens my day." Students of the Month are se- lected by teachers based on cri- teria which not only includes performance in the classroom but for best all-around attitudes as positive role models. Teacher of Month Home/School Coordinator for Kings Mountain District Schools. Hamrick is married to Larry Hamrick Jr. They have two daughters, Lindsay, who is in the seventh grade, and Molly, who is in the sixth grade. Hamrick said she became a counselor because "when I was a teenage I needed support and understanding from people out- side of my family. My family was loving and supportive but they were suppose to be that way. The guidance and support of people who didn't owe me anything, from people who did- n't have to love me or care for me, really meant a lot to me. As a guidance counselor, I hope to be that caring and supportive person that could meet the needs of our young people.” Hamrick said the most re- warding thing about her work is to see the success and con- tentment of the students she works with. "To work with a student as he or she struggles through rough times, then to watch as they move on with their life with some degree of success and happiness, is very significant," she said.
