Obituaries THE KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD MAZZIE BURTON KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mazzie Ann Painter Burton, 80, 807 Princeton Drive, died April 14, 1997 at Wendover Heights, Shelby. , Jak ; ~ A native of Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Mary Lee Kepley Painter. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ, Gastonia. She is survived by her hus- band, Milton G. Burton of Kings Mountain; son, Phillip Gray Burton of Duluth, GA; daugh- ters, Faye B. Ogren of Tucker, GA, and Betty B. Mayes of Kings Mountain; brothers, Giles Painter of Lincolnton and George Painter of Belmont; sis- ters, Margaret Head of Lexington, Jean Gibble of Goldsboro, and Frankie Freeman of Statesville; six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. David Vaughn and Gene Arnold at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 1997 at Harris Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights, Shelby, NC 28150. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. HARRY G. GOSEY CHARLOTTE - Harry G. Gosey, 67, 5956 Elmwood Circle, died April 8, 1997 at Carolinas Medical Center. A former resident of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eva Murray Gosey. He was a retired sales representative. He was educat- ed in Kings Mountain Schools, - served as a sergeant in the Signal Corp of the U.S. Army, and was a former Cub Scout Master, Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Thomasboro Presbyterian Church, now Pleasant Grove Presbyterian. He was a member of East Gate Masonic Lodge #692, Scottish Rite Bodies, and The Oasis Temple. He was past cap- tain of the Hillbilly Parade Unit, and a Past Patron of East Gate Chapter #312, O.E.S. “He is sirvived by his‘wife; ~ + Betty Miller Gosey; children, Michael Gosey and wife, = Xp; Beta Kappa graduate of April 11 at 2 Melanie, of Charlotte, Ron Gosey and fiance, Tammy Beaty of Charlotte, Richard Gosey and wife, Beth of Charlotte, and Scott Gosey and wife, Sally of Charlotte; sister, Jane Dixon of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Tim, Rosell, Brandy, Ashley, and Rikki; and two great-grandchil- dren, J Prd . at McEwen p-m Charlotte Chapel. DARGIN W. CHILDERS KINGS MOUNTAIN - Dargin W. Childers, 79, 619 East Gold Street, died April 14, 1997 at Cleveland Regional Hospital in Shelby. A native of Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late John and Mary Ward Childers and husband of the late Bessie Biddix Childers. He was a re- tired textile employee and a member of East Gold Street Wesleyan Church. He is survived by his son, Paul "Pete" Childers of Kings Mountain; daughter, Hazel Hipp of King Mountain; sister, Pearl Riddley of Clover, SC; grandchildren, Debra Ramey and Pamela Martin of Kings Mountain and Sean Childers of Atlanta, GA; and three great- grandchildren. The funereal will be conduct- ed by the Revs. Harold Bumby and Curtis Williams at 3 p.m. Thursday at East Gold Street Wesleyan Church. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. He served as mayor of Burlington for four years and chairman of the Burlington School Board for nine years. He was named Citizen of the Year in Alamance County. He was - president of the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce and the Y.M.C.A. He was a loyal mem- ber and Past President of the Burlington Rotary Club, and he served as District Governor of District 771 and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by his club. He was a lifelong member of Front Street United Methodist Church. He served three terms as Chairman of the Board of Stewards and until a few months ago he was President of the Men's Bible Class. He was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Plonk Isley; daughter, Kay Ellen "Kelly" and her hus- band, Judge John B. Lewis Jr. of Farmville and their sons, Ben and Thomas; son, Scott Isley and wife, Terri, of Thomasville, and their children, Caroline, John, Greg, Ryan and Allison; son, Dr. Joseph Plonk Isley and wife, Pam, and their daughter, Kate; sisters, Genevieve Burgess and Jeanne Hobby, both of Burlington; and brother, Fred Isley of Graham. : The funeral was held at Front Street United Methodist Church, at 11 a.m! Tour of Homes is April 26, "Welcome To Spring," the tour of historic homes by Carolina State Bank and the Kings Mountain Tour of Homes Committee, will be held April 26 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Jay Rhodes, executive officer of Kings Mountain's Carolina State Bank, presented a check to Tour of Homes Chairman Margaret Pearson Friday as the official sponsor. Tickets are on sale at $10 from Harris-Teeter, Dellinger's, The Dogwood Shoppe, Emily's Gift Shop of Shelby, Ford's Nursery of Gastonia and The Sub Factory. Pearson has Patron Party tickets available by calling 739- 5831. The party on April 25 will be held at the beautifully re- stored home of Roy and Melva Huffstetler on North Piedmont Avenue. A ticket admits two people to the Patron Party and also includes two tour tickets and a candlelight preview of the homes before the tour. The Saturday tour ticket also includes lunch compliments of Sub Factory to be served at the Kings Mountain Woman's Club. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Diabetes Association. The 1995 tour of homes raised $6100 for the Diabetes Association and pro- moters pronounced it highly successful.
