Obituaries VIRGINIA SABETTI KINGS MOUNTAIN - Virginia McGinnis Sabetti, 79, 915 Crescent Circle, died May 10, 1997 at Wendover Heights, Shelby. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William Hinkle and Iva Harris McGinnis, and wife of the late Louis G. Sabetti Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, a member of the Thursday Afternoon Book Club, the Open Gate GArden Club, The AMerican Legion Auxiliary, the Kings Mountain Women's Club, and P.E.O. She is survived by her sons, Louis G. Sabetti Jr. of Kings Mountain and Tony Sabetti of Carolina Beach; sisters, Janet Eagle of Landis and Dorothy Whetstine of North Myrtle Beach, SC; brothers, Don McGinnis and Bill McGinnis of Kings Mountain; and four grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Paul Abee Tuesday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. JIM AMOS KINGS MOUNTAIN - Jim Amos, 74, 409 Edgemont Drive, died Sunday, May 11, 1997 at Bowman Gray Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a two- month battle with an unknown cancer. A native of Gaffney, SC he was the son of the late M.C. and Bertie Wilson Amos. He was owner of James E. Amos Accounting, Kings Mountain, was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church, mem- ber of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club, a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, a veteran of the U.S. Army with service in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge, and former controller ~~ for Margrace Mills. He was a former Kings Mountain City Councilman, lo- cal business owner and served as a community volunteer and leader. Li He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Holland Amos of Kings Mountain; son, Jim Amos Jr. of Mililani, Hawaii; daughter, Suzanne Glymph of Senaca, SC; granddaughter, Michelle; and brother, Dr. Bill Amos of Scottsdale, AZ. A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Eldridge Grayson Mitchell and Nellie Turner Mitchell, and widow of the late Roger Wigginton Sr. She was a textile -employee. = She is survived by her sons, Roger Lee Wigginton Jr. of Grover, Lewis Wigginton of York, SC, and Dave Wigginton and Steven Wigginton, both of Gastonia; daughter, Vanessa Wigginton of North Belmont; sister, Margie Melton of Dallas; and three grandchildren. FAYE HIPPS BLACKSBURG, SC - Mrs. Faye Black Hipps, 71, 105 Ridge Road, died Sunday, May 11, 1997 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby. A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Real and Alice Fleming Black. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was retired from Hoechst Celanese. She is survived by her hus- band, James Dwight Hipps; son, Hugh Huffman of Earl; four daughters, Margaret Wylie of Shelby, Peggy Gantt of Grover, Betty Richard of Fallston and Joan Evans of Blacksburg; two brothers, L.J. Black of Kings Mountain and Ben Black of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren. She was preced- ed in death by her first hus- band, Theodore Huffman Jr. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Vernon Craig at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 at Antioch Baptist Church. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late James Allen White and Sallie Mullinax White. He was a loom fixer with S.T.I. Kings Plush Mill in Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Meria McSwain White of the home; daughters and sons-in- law, Angie and Kenny Richardson of Kings Mountain and Pam and Jonathan Jackson of Bessemer City; brother, Ralph White of Shelby; sisters, Ruth Parker of San Dimas, California, Thelma Davis of Shelby and JoAnn Lowery and Emma Summitt of Kings Mountain; and grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Richardso The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Married to Elizabeth Holland Amos for 47 years, the family also included their son, Jim, of Mililani, Hawaii; their daugh- ter, Suzanne Glymph and her daughter, Michelle, of Seneca, SC and one brother, Dr. Bill Amos of Scottsdale, AZ. His business expertise was also helpful to his parents, M. C. and Bertie Amos, in their drygoods store on North Piedmont Avenue. "Dad was an excellent man- ager of people and resources," said his son. "We have many good memo- ries." COUPLE From 1-A in San Diego. He has worked 24 years for Duke Power Company as a system hydro en- gineer in Charlotte. _ The General overseas Guard Units in the Western Part of the’ state and drills most every weekend. His photograph hangs in a prominent place at the Kings Mountain National Guard on Phifer Road. The Brockmans give their pet cats, Maverick and Goose, so named for the movie "Top Gun," the run of the house. For his birthday recently the General received tapes of fa- vorite James Bond movies. Besides flying at the Shelby Airport, his next love is watch- ing television. Watching James Bond movies and golfing at River Bend golf links are family times he plans to have more time for in retire- ment. General Brockman has re- ceived many medals, including the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze” stars, among others. Mrs. Brockman said she is proud of her husband and of their combined military service which has been a large part of their life. The couple encourages young people to choose the military as a career and to become active in the North Carolina National Guard. Both agree the Guard has - much to offer, not only for edu- cational experiences but for training for life. And, both say you don't have to be top brass to serve and to love the joy it brings of doing a good job. Lincolnton Memorial Hospital.
