FILING From 1-A councilman James A. Childers, says she has observed the politi- cal process of local government for several years and is making her first bid for elected office, If elected, she said she will work toward recreational programs intensified with improvements of building facilities and play- ground equipment for children of all ages. She will push for general cleanup and code en- forcement of properties, she said, in particular to all en- trances to the city. Clean up and beautification of the downtown area, finish the projects started downtown ‘and continue street resurfacing and maintenance and continue drainage programs are her pri- orities. Childers said she would work toward maintaining the lowest possible tax and utility rates, a program to help dis- abled persons and senior citi- zens on a fixed income with utility payments and work to- ward expanding utilities where needed. "More industry is' needed in and around the city and I'd like to see us have more jobs to keep our young adults at home," she said. Owner and operator of J. P. A member of Temple Baptist Church, she is president of Southern Arts Society, on the board of direc- tors of the Kings Mountain Woman's Club, a member of the Charlotte Art League, and Consortium of Progress and holds an inactive real estate li- cense, inactive nursing license and has a degree in business ac- counting.
