died July 16, 1997 at Cleveland
Regional Medical Center in
Shelby.
~ A native of Cherokee County,
SC, he was the son of the late
Charlie G. and Mary Viola
Adams Benton. He was also
preceded in death by his sister,

He was a retired farmer and a
. member of Kings Mountain
Baptist Church, where he was
an active Deacon, chairman of

A native of Cleveland
County, she was the daughter
of the late Foley P. and Ruth

Resurrection Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her hus-

in-law, Ronnie and Shirley

A native of Brooklyn, NY, he
was the son of the late Thomas
and May Simmons. He was re-
tired after 37 years as an alloy
welder with PPG, was a U.S.
Air Force veteran, and was a
member of Beaver Dam Baptist

brothers, Thomas "Buddy"

VA; and grandsons, Jeremy

of Shelby.
The funeral was conducted
by Drs. Bob Shackleford and
Paul Sorrells’at 3 p.m. Saturday
at Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
Burial was in the church ceme-

Annexation hearing on Council age
Public hearing on the city's
plans to annex 857 acres in four
areas of the city will be con-
ducted by City Council Tuesday
night at 7:30 p.m.
- The annexation, if approved,
would take in 592 people, 231
dwellings and 20 establish-
ments over a 1.34 square mile.
__ Notices of the upcoming
have been mailed to property
owners as well as to Volunteer
Fire Departments and Solid -
Waste providers affected by the
proposed annexation. The text
of the map was published in
last week's Herald.
The annexed areas would in-
clude:
Area 98-C - Highway 74
Business West, 518.10 acres in-
cluding 184 dwellings of 469
people, 18 establishments on
3.71 miles of streets with as-
sessed value of $10,684.,258.
Area 98-D - the golf course
area, 1906.79 acres,
dwellings, one establishment
with assessed value $467,660.
Area 98-E Waco Road - 74
Bypass right-of-way, contiguous
annexation of Spectrum, 222.33

value.

smallest area of 10.03 acres, 20

Rolling services such as po-
CVS and Revco complete merger
CVS Corporation today an-
nounced that it has completed
its merger with Revco D.S., Inc.,
following provisional approval
from the Federal Trade
Commission of an agreement
allowing CVS to proceed,with
the transaction. :
In the merger, each Revco
share will be exchanged for
0.8842 CVS shares, resulting in
the issuance of approximately
60 million CVS shares to Revco
_ shareholders, based on about
67.8 million outstanding Revco
_shares, excluding approximate-
ly four million Revco stock op-
tions.
Under the agreement with
the Commission, which will
now be placed on the public
record for comment, CVS will
divest 120 Revco stores out of a
combined CVS/Revco store
base of over 4,000 stores. All but
six of the stores to be divested
are located in the Richmond
and Tidewater regions of
Virginia
