On their next possession, the Patriots fumbled again and Shelby scored on a 71-yard run to break the game open. "But our guys played better than they did in our opening game (a 16-8 win over West Lincoln)," said Coach Heffner. "We just have to get better at blocking and tackling. We did- n't make a lot of mistakes like we did the week before." Kings Mountain's defense forced a number of Shelby turnovers, but the offense was unable to take advantage of them. "Our offensive line did a bet- ter job of blocking, and Julius Matthews ran the ball good," Heffner said. Defensive back Aquino Reynolds led the KM defensive effort. ped _rryr The Kings Mountain Herald OOL AT & . When the National Athletic Testing Association in Omaha, Nebraska needed someone in the Gaston area to perform on-site testing of local high school athletes, they recruited Gaston Memorial. Our sports medicine group jumped at the opportunity. But soon it was the athletes who were doing the jumping. And sprinting. And stretching. Because the program tests individuals for their power, agility and endurance skills. And during testing, our sports medicine specialists are able to help athletes in ways that can improve performances, and more importantly, reduce injuries. Which is only natural because that's what we do every day at the Rehab and Sports Medicine Center. From simple sprained ankles to the most advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures, we think you'll also agree our sports medicine program kicks gluteus maximus — to use a medical term. ==\ Gaston =) HealthCare WE'RE HERE FOR LIFE CLI ll A ——. September 18,1997 SHELBY From 1B "And I think special teams is going to be a big part of it. Field position is going to be a big key to our game." Even though it appears that Shelby has put one of its best teams on the field and Kings Mountain will go into the game as the underdog, Massey said he looks forward to the chal- lenge. "I think it will be good for our kids to play somebody that they're not supposed to beat," he said. "Hopefully it will be a good test to see what kind of strides we've made in the last three weeks. The good thing is it doesn't count in the confer- ence standings. I hope the kids don't feel a lot of pressure and will just go out there and enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy the game." "We played a tremendous game,” Moss said. "I was really proud of our players for keep- ing their composure with some of the flagrant fouls that Crest was putting on us. "We had been on a downfall, tying a game and los- ing a game, but came back with a big win against Huss and an- other one against Crest." Ps on NINJAS.
