A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Rev. Glenn O. Scoggins. He was retired after 20 years as a U.S. Postal Service Clerk. He was also previously employed by Esther Mill Corporation. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Shelby High School and was a U.S. Army veteran with three years service in the USA and Germany. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Horne Scoggins Silvers of Rutherfordton; wife, Elizabeth Frady Scoggins of Shelby; son and daughter-in- law, Shannon Daniel .and Leanne Scoggins of Somerset, NJ; daughter, Amy Elizabeth Scoggins of Shelby; daughter and son-in-law, Laney Scoggins and David Hendrick of Shelby; brother, Terrill Glenn Scoggins of Lake Norman; granddaugh- ter, Lauren Elizabeth Carter of Shelby; and mother-in-law, Ann C. KINGS MOUNTAIN WEATHER REPORT BESSEMER CITY - John Calvin May, 62, 1005 Serenity Woods, died Sunday at Duke University Medical Center. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Fred J. May and brother of the late Huel May. He was retired a: Weave Room Overseer at Reeves Brothers. He was an ac- tive member of First Baptist Church for 37 years where he served as Deacon and teacher cf the R.L. Cockcroft Sunday School Class. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He was a former City Councilman of Bessemer City, and a member of the VFW arid American Legion. He was a for- mer member of the Sports Booster Club and Optimist Club. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carole Guffey may of the home; son, Derek May of Long Beach; daughter and scn- in-law, Angie and Greg Sellers of Gastonia; daughter, Carron May of Gastonia; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Lisa Edwards May of Kings Mountain; mother, Beulah Waldroup May Carpenter of Robbinsville; sister, Colean Davis of Bessemer City; broth- ers, Rev.
