PATRICIA JOHNSTON
NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs.
Fairicia’ "Pat? Foust’ Lswis
Johnston, 51, died Monday,
November 17, 1997 at Wilkes
Regeonal Medical Center.
Mrs. Johnston was the daughter
of Dorothy Plonk Lewis and the
late Dr. Robert E. Lewis. She was a
graduate of Wilkes Central High
School and attended UNC-G. After
graduating from UNC-CH, she re-
ceived a Master's Degree in
English from Appalachian State
University. She taught in the
English Department at Wilkes
Central High School and Wilkes
Community College and taught
preschool at North Wilkesboro
Presbyterian Church. Most recent-
ly, she was office manager for
Leatherwood Mountain.
She was an active member of
First United Methodist Church in
North Wilkesboro and the United
Methodist Women's Group, where
she held various offices and taught
Sunday School.
In addition to her mother, she is
survived by her husband, Richard
"Dick" Blaine Johnston Jr. of
Leatherwood, Ferguson; one
daughter, Mary Lewis Johnston of
Raleigh; two sons, Andrew Lewis
Johnston of Americus, GA and
Blaine Patrick Johnston of Raleigh;
two sisters, Mary Suzanne "Suzie"
Lewis Tonski of Huntington, West
Virginia and Margaret "Margi"
Lewis Tumer of North Wilkesboro;
and one brother; Robby Lewis Jr.
of Oelsnitz, Germany.
A memorial service will be con-
ducted by Dr. Sydnor Thompson
III and the Rev. David Heil at 11
a.m. Thursday at First United
Methodist Church of North
Wilkesboro.

Ethel Cabe Conner, 91, a resi-
dent of Kings Mountain
Extended Care, died Sunday,
November 16 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Bryson City, she
was the daughter of the late
John Harvey and Clementine
Cabe, and widow of the late
James Ervin Conner. She was a
member of Zion Baptist Church,
Gastonia, and was a retired tex-
tile employee. :
She is survived by her son,
Johnny Conner of Kings
Mountain; daughters, Garnell
Bryant and Betty Payne of
Cherryville; sisters, Ruth Baity
of Kings Mountain, Ellen
Strickland of Asheville, and
Hazel Bowale of St. Petersburg,
FL; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-
grandchildren and four great-
great grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
by the Revs. Sam Robbins and
Mike Ellis at 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Ollie Harris Memoridl Chapel.
Burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery. :

P. Logan, 90, Route 1, died
November 15, 1997 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland
County, he was the son of the
late John and Susie Sellers
Logan. He was a retired textile
worker and a member of
Bethany Baptist Church,
Grover.
He is survived by his wife,
Sara Mauney Logan of
Blacksburg, SC; sons, Fred
Thomas Logan of Dallas, and
John Mauney Logan and James
Philip Logan of Blacksburg, SC ;
daughter, Grace Logan of
Blacksburg, SC; 11 grandchil-
dren and 11 great-grandchil-
dren.
The funeral was held
Monday at 3 p.m. at Ollie
Harris Memorial Chapel. Burial
was in Bethlehem Baptist
Church cemetery.

Bumgardner Crocker, 83, for-
merly of 204 South Tracy Street,
died November 16, 1997 at
White Oak Manor.
A native of Asheville, she
was the daughter of the late
Robert Henry and Georganne
Spearman Rice and widow of
the late Austin L. Bumgardner
and the late Farrell L. Crocker.
She was also preceded in death
by her brothers, Alvin Rice,
Luther Rice, Johnny Rice and
Ernest Rice, and her sister, Mary
Clayton. She was a member of
First Baptist Church and was a
seamstress. for = Plonk's
Department Store for a number
of years.
She is survived by her son,
William L. Bumgardner and his
wife, Betti, of Clyde; stepsons,
Dean Crocker of Rock Hill, SC,
Earl Crocker of Charlotte, and
Charles Crocker of Asheville;
daughter, Phyllis B. Champion
and her husband, Perry, of
Kings Mountain; brother,
Claude Rice of Hendersonville;
sisters, Myrtle Payne of Kings
Mountain, Ethel Davidson of
Swannanoa, Faye Talbot of
Black Mountain, Betty Barger of
Sumter, SC, and Sara Wilson of
High Point; three grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was conducted
by the Rev. John Sloan at 11 a.m.
Wednesday at First Baptist
Church. Burial was in Mountain
Rest Cemetery.

GASTONIA - Jack Robert
Justice, 40, 143 Proctor Street,
died Sunday at Carolinas
Medical Center, Charlotte.
A native of Loudon County,
TN., he was the son of the late
Jerry and Mary Truett Justice.
He was also preceded in death
by his sister, Shirley Darby.
He was employed in con-
struction.
He is survived by his wife,
Janie Thomasson Justice; sons,
David and Jerry Justice of
Bessemer City and Jack Justice

RUTH CRAFT
RUTHERFORDTON - Ruth
Hord Craft, 90, formerly of
Rutherfordton, died Friday,
November 14, 1997 at Clapp's
Nursing Home in Greensboro.
A native of Kings Mountain,
she was the daughter of the late
Dr. J.G. and Carrie White Hord,
and wife of the late W.M. Craft.
She was a member of
Rutherfordton Presbyterian
Church and was a retired librar-
ian at R-S Central High School.
She was a graduate of Erskine
College and recipient of library
of science certification from
Vanderbilt University. She was
a member of Rutherfordton
Garden Club, Rutherfordton
Presbyterian Choir, and
Daughters of the American
Revolution.
She is survived by her sons,
Dr. Bill Craft of Greensboro, Dr.
Jim Craft of Aiken, SC, and
Dick Craft of Rutherfordton;
brother, James E. Hord of
Miami Springs, FL; sisters,
Mary Frances Cothran of
Shelby and Carolyn Harris of
Kings Mountain; 11 grandchil-
dren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral was conducted
by Dr. Troy Lewis at 11 a.m.
Monday at Rutherfordton
Presbyterian Church. Burial
was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
