Essie Carroll, 90, still
driving and selling Avon
At age 90 Essie Wilson
Carroll drives her own car, sells
Avon and Stanley products to
regular customers she'd had for
years and never misses a Senior
Citizens meeting at the Kings
Mountain Senior Center.
"I enjoy life," said Carroll,
surprised by 100 family mem-
bers and friends on her birth-
day Sunday at Grace United
Methodist Church fellowship
hall.
Mrs. Carroll's son, Evans and
his wife, Jo, had invited Mrs.
Carroll out to lunch on Sunday
but Carroll told his mother he
had to pick up his wife at the
church. Mrs. Carroll, never sus-
pecting their plans because her
birthday falls on this Friday,
said she didn't dress up and
was already getting hungry by
1 p.m. when her son knocked
on her door.
She walked into a room full
of people and a big cake hold-
ing 90 lighted candles.
"I was just speechless and
couldn't say a word," she said.
Her children, Evans and Jo
Carroll;*James Carroll, Gene
and Phyllis Carroll and Ethel
Mauney hosted the dinner and
gave Mrs. Carroll a tree decorat-
ed with 90 one dollar bills. The
grandchildren and great-grand-
children also presented her with
gifts.
Widow of EB iO. "Dock”
Carroll, Mrs. Carroll's brother,
Charles Wilson, and her sister,
Helen Wells, and her niece, Mrs.
Ola Pruette, were among spe-
cial guests at the party. Two of
her sisters who live out- of-state
were unable to attend but they
sent birthday cards.
Mrs. Carroll is a member of
East Side Baptist Church.
"I have a lot to be thankful
for," said Mrs. Carroll.

to dismiss the complaint, ac-
knowledged that "human error

"machines can't read messed up
