Kings Mountain Police Report The Kings Mountain Herald March 12, 1998 Students suspended on drug charges Three Middle School stu- dents, one boy and two girls, were suspended from school Thursday for possession of a controlled substance and a fourth, a girl, received long- term suspension for distribu- tion of a controlled substance. Principal John Goforth said the suspension of the three stu- dents for 10 days for posses- sion could be reduced to two days if the students enroll in classes at CODAP in Shelby. The four students are all 12- year-old sixth graders. "We are looking into any and all allegations and are talking to - students,” said Goforth. Kings Mountain Police are in- vestigating a complaint by a parent who said her foster son came home from school and she found Xanax, a anti-depressant . drug, in his jeans. The woman contends that the child was giv- en the drug by another child at school. Lt. Melvin Proctor said the detective division at the Kings Mountain Police Department interviewed eight 12-year-olds last Friday and has one more student to talk to before turning over its findings to the District Attorney's office and the coun- ty's Juvenile Services officer. "The woman turned in the child she wants to adopt s be- cause she thinks kids should pay the consequences for their deeds and learn from this inci- dent," said Proctor. "We suspect that more than one or two children are in- volved," said Proctor. Two KMHS students suspended for fighting Two Kings Mountain High School students were suspend- ed last week for fighting in class. & ol Sgt. Maurice Jamerson said the two boys got in a scuffle and damaged two chairs. KMPD to run radar mornings next week Kings Mountain Police will run radar in five areas of the city next week.
