Neisler said the board’s con- tention was that it would be set- ting a precedent to hold a public hearing in one municipality when it conducts elections for all other The Kings Mountain Herald towns in the county with the ex- ception of Boiling Springs. “We owe to the citizens to be aggressive in this matter and not just roll over,” said White. “When citizens go to the lobby of Kings Mountain Hospital they are going to be very upset and they'll ask why we didn’t do something about it.” The 1965 Voting Rights Act gives final approval for voting changes to the U. S. Justice De- partment and Corry said anyone can file objections. Teams can deep dry, smoke, grill or cook the turkeys using any method. It is a no-hold barred competition and local cooks say that will be an interest- ing evening of good food and fun. Fifty judges from around the country will decide the winning entries by sampling the pork ribs, chicken, beef brisket, pork butt and/ or whole hog. . North-Carolina based teams have an excellent shot at a cash prize, The Governor's Trophy. The team from North Carolina scoring the overall highest points receives $500 cash, an impressive trophy and a certificate signed by Governor Hunt. The second place winner gets $300 and third place wins $150. Cookers may also compete for the title of “Best Barbecue Booth” and the title of “Miss North Caro- lina Queen Hog” which deter- mines the most visually appeal- ing pig. Barbecue hash will also be judged in a separate category with its own award structure. “Many of the cookers vend their award-winning barbecue to the public and the many regional differences in barbecue and styles can be tasted in the variety of sauces, dry rubs and the heat source,” say local cooks. Sauces differ in color, texture and vary from peppery to sweet and from hot to mild. The heat source, char- coal or wood, accounts for the distinct regional flavors of barbe- cue.
