All teams advance to the post-season. A meet- ing will be held Sunday night to determine the pairings. Post 155 hosts Stanley Friday and Rutherford County Saturday in their final regular season games. In action this past week, Tony Leigh's charges fell to East Catawba 15-5 Saturday night, defeated Gastonia 7-5 Sunday night, and then lost a heart- breaker to Shelby 7-6 Monday night. Kings Mountain had an early 3-0 lead against East Catawba, but the visitors battled back to tie the score at 3-3 after four innings, and broke the game open in the late innings. : RBI singles by Robin Perkins and Rusty Putnam put KM on top 2-0 in the first, and a dou- ble by Brandon Putnam and single by John yr a IS The Kings Mountain Herald Juniors home for McMackin made it 3-0 in the second. But East Catawba picked up a run without the benefit of a hit in the third inning, and then tied the game in the top of the fourth on solo home runs by Abernathy and Sain. East Catawba scored two runs after two were out in the top of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead against KM starter Seth Denton. Two singles, a walk and a balk did the damage. Three more runs in the sixth made the score 6- 3, and three more in the seventh increased the margin to 9-3. Kings Mountain finally scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 9-5. Perkins was hit by a pitched ball and Rusty Putnam walked. Perkins later scored on a bases- loaded walk to Matt Bridges, and Putnam scored on a wild pitch. Eric Boyd retired six straight batters in the sev- enth and eighth innings as KM tried to get back in the ball game, but East Catawba broke the Summer tennis schedule announced The Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation Department re- cently sponsored it second an- nual tennis carnival to kick off this summer's tennis clinics and league play. Over 40 children attended the event. This summer, Parks and Recreation will offer tennis clin- ics throughout the summer. Ron Humphries will be the teacher and will have help from area volunteers and high school ten- nis players. The Parks and Recreation Department also has plans for a Junior Tennis League, NCTA Tennis Jamboree, AAU Junior Olympics and a Junior Novice. Tournament. The department will also be- gin this summer with the 1-2-3 Tennis for Kids Program. The program will introduce players to the game and get them hooked on tennis; provide weekly clinics; create adult leagues; promote and develop the growth of tennis; provide professional education with detailed curriculum for coaches; provide positive and exciting clinics to insure success for the future of tennis in Kings Mountain; provide a rotating system for each participant so he or she can see improvement; develop a work ethic and disci- pline for kids involved; and de- velop social skills and fun.
