ARS Sn ps SS Ne August 13, 1998 The Kings Mountain Herald Page 3B Special Events | [Engangement Weddings Special program at Military Park Kings Mountain National Military Park will be the backdrop for “One Battle May Give Us America: Lord Cornwallis in the South,” Thursday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the park au- ditorium. Admission is free. The 40-minute dramatic monologue in costume will be presented by British writer /performer Howard Burnham. The shade of Charles, Earl Cornwallis, revisits the scenes of his historic campaign through the Carolinas during 1780-81. With resignation and humor the redcoat commander in the South pre- sents the British perspective on the final phase of the Revolutionary War. He recalls the Siege of Charleston, the activities of “Bloody Ban” Tarleton, the tragedy of Colonel Hayne, the British victory at Camden and their misfortunes at Kings Mountain and Cowpens, and finally he ruefully recounts the final thrust into Virginia and its culmination at Yorktown. Through humorous, dramatic and moving vignettes, Cornwallis paints a memorable picture of the final stages of the inspiring story of the struggle for American liberty. ; : On Saturday, August 29, the park will host the first annual Kings Mountain forum. The forum is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. Historians and scholars will speak on vari- ous topics concerning the Battle of Kings Mountain. On Saturday and Sunday, August 29-30, the Company of Overmountain Men will muster near the park visitor center for a Revolutionary War encampment. The encampment will feature mus- ket and rifle demonstrations and other camp ac- tivities throughout the day. The encampment will open at 11 a.m. each day. Saturday encampment will conclude at 5 p.m. and Sunday's activities will end at 3 p.m. See Park, 5B 10 FINISH TLTNSTL Gl CAR ACCIDENT RECENTLY?
