Forty-two players from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties participated, with competition in 10 divisions. The event was sponsored by KMTA, Kings Mountain Parks and Recreation, Dr. Martin Stallings, and Dr. G.K. Howard. Finals results: ' Girls 18-under - Cari Hamrick defeated Rebecca Henderson 6-4, 6-0. Girls 14-under - Stacey Costner defeated Paris Robinson 6-3, 6-2. © Girls 12-under - Maria Peralta defeated Laura Tate, 6-0, 6-3. Girls doubles - Hamrick /Henderson defeated Mayse/Wilson 6-4, 6-4. Girls 18-under consolation - S. Robinson defeated C. Fulton 6-3, 6-2. . Girls doubles consolation - Costnér Bullington defeated Belt/ Montgomery 6-0, 6-1. Boys 18-under - Kenny Houston defeated Michael Hibriten kickers at KMHS Kings Mountain High's soc- cer team will open its season against Hibriten Monday at 7 p.m. at John Gamble Stadium. The two teams will play again Wednesday, August 26 at Hibriten. Second-year coach Kevin Moss has been practicing his team daily since August 1, and despite heavy graduation losses he expects the Mountaineers to be battling for one of the Southwestern 3A Conference's playoff berths. Moss has five returning se- niors - Jason Burris, Marty Goforth, Ben Howell, Robin Perkins, and Jeremy Wallace. Juniors include Brad Bridges, Jason Bridges, Zach George, Sean McCauley, Evan Osteen and Trey Krieger. Sophomores are Mark Baity. T.]J. Loftin, David Moschler, and Drew Neisler; and freshmen are Justin Boheler, David Crawford, Kenny Grant, Grey Howard, Ryan Lovelace, Trey Williams and Jason West. Amanda Johnsonbaugh, who will play on the school's first girls soccer team in the spring, will be the team's manager. The Mountaineers play a pair of nonconference games against Crest, Shelby and Hunter Huss, and will play home-and-away conference games against North Gaston, Forestview, South Point, Burns and R-S Central.
