Page 2A The Kings Mountain Herald . Still's paintings to be unveiled Florida artist Christopher Still, son of Dr. and Mrs. John Still of Kings Mountain, has been busy. He was commissioned by the family of Florida Governor Lawton Chiles and the Florida Legislature to paint the official portrait of Chiles that will hang ¢ in Tallahassee with the portraits of all the state's other past gov- ernors. Chiles will unveil the portrait on December 3. ; The City Council of St. Petersburg awarded Still $50,000 to paint two 10 foot talk- murals for the city hall and the murals will be unveiled also in . December. Still was featured in a recent feature page cover story by Jacquin Sanders in Times Floridian. The article was enti- tled, "Brushes of Greatness" and included color pictures of Christopher Still's private col- lection "Changing Tides" and a picture of Still painting Stevey, a pelican which recovered from severe injuries caused by a wrathful fisherman but remains blind. Both pictures that will hang in the city hall show boats, fish- ermen, families and scenes from life. "I wanted to paint Florida," he says."That's one good reason I'm an artist." Justice Department Wednesday morning gave ap- proval of the election schedule. The primary for commission- ers is November 3. A second primary, if needed, will be held December 1. The general elec- tion for county commissioners is January 12, 1999. Under an order signed by U. S. District Judge Stanley Sporkin both parties will hold primaries November 3 The Democrats held a prima- ry in May because six candi- dates filed to run. If they all re- file, they will be joined by incumbent Willie McIntosh, who must also stand for reelec- tion under Sporkin's order. The Republicans did not have a primary in May because only five candidates filed to run. All candidates must refile. CCAGP sued and a federal appeals court ruled in their favor, say- ing the commission did not have the authority to change its makeup. Harmon of the home; and daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline H. and Jeffrey Lynn of Kings Mountain.
