Hillman is the Mountaineers’ third SWC Player of the Year in four years under Coach Ron Massey. In 1995, fullback Shane Logan was named Offensive Player of the Year, and last year linebacker Mark Roper was named Defensive Player of the Year. : Hillman was one of the top running backs in the state this year, carrying the ball 353times for 2,510 yards and 26 touch- Herald/Times downs. He was the State Player of the Week after is 250-yard performance against South Point, and he was the Channel 36 Player of the Week after his 298-yard rushing performance in the Mounties’ 26-21 playoff victory over Kannapolis. In two seasons, Hillman has carried the ball 563 times for 3,897 yards to become the lead- ing rusher in Cleveland County history. He holds KMHS records for most yards rushing in a single game, most yards rushing in a season and career, and most points scored in a ca- reer. Ash also had a record-break- ing year on offense, hitting 82- of-152 passes for 1,198 yards and nine touchdowns to be- come the school’s all-time lead- ing passer. Ash’s season total topped the previous single sea- son record, and his two-year ca- reer total of 2,288 yards broke the previous record of 2,185 set by current KMHS assistant coach Ryan Hollifield. ' “Bell*also’ closed out & big ca- reer ‘with’ the ‘Mountdineérs” with a school single game re- ception record of 30 catches for 569 yards, giving him a career reception record of 80 catches for 1,361 yards. He is the only football player in school history to have over 500 yards receiving in a season and 1,000 yards re- ceiving in a career. Massey closed out his fourth year with the Mountaineers with his best season ever (14-2) and a four-year record of 41-11- 1. The Mountaineers won their third straight SWC champi- onship - a feat never before ac- complished in school history - and also made it to the state championship game for the first time ever.
