KM Senior Citizens celebrate Christmas By Alan Hodge Over 100 Kings Mountain se- nior citizens celebrated the Yuletide season at the Senior Center's sixteenth annual Christmas party last Thursday. Sponsored by Kings Mountain Rotary Club, the get-together featured a cornucopia of snacks and a variety of entertainment. Beginning with a hearty wel- come from Senior Center Director Marty Thornburg, the two hour program included music, door prizes, Christmas stories, and religious services. "We've been planning the party for a couple of months," said Thornburg. "The seniors re- ally look forward it." Arriving in vans, cars, and even on foot, the partygoers soaked up the Christmas spirit that permeated every inch of the Senior Center. Later, every- one made their way through a generous banquet line and soaked up their fill of ham bis-. "This is a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas," "Thornburg said as he surveyed the scene. Thornburg also expressed special thanks to the many local businesses who helped with the door prizes. Just a few of these included The Pier Restaurant, Cypress Foot Mineral Company, Edie's Beauty Shop, Angie's Etceteras, and Winn- Dixie. Volunteers who worked hard to make the party a suc- cess were Barbara Coxen, Linda Dixon, Jackie Queen, JoAnne Frederick, and Hester Haynes. As if the food and fellowship weren't enough, eyes of all ages lit up when Santa Claus make his grand entrance and began handing out prizes. A Christmas gathering that gets better every year, the Kings Mountain Senior Center party is an old time celebration in the manner many of those present recalled from their childhood.
