Brandon Bridges, a 13-year-
old seventh grade student at
Kings Mountain Middle School,
has completed the first step to
becoming an internationally-
recognized artist by winning a
local competition sponsored by
the Kings Mountain Lions Club.
Bridges’ poster is among the
more than 300,000 entries sub-
mitted worldwide in the 11th
annual Lions International
Peace Poster Contest. Out of all
the posters created by Kings
Mountain Middle School stu-
dents, Bridges’ entry best por-
trayed the contest theme,
“Planting the Seeds of Peace.”
Kings Mountain Lions Club
President Joe Hardin said he
was impressed by the amount
of effort exhibited by Kings
Mountain Middle School stu-
dent.s “It is obvious that these
young people have strong ideas
of what peace means to them. I
am so proud that we were able
to provide them with the op-
portunity to share their vision

Bridges’ colored pencil poster
now advances to round two,
district 31-C competition, where
his entry will compete against
entries from many other local
Peace Poster Contests.
“Bridges” poster will face stiff
competition in the district
round and in the other rounds
of competition if he is to be-
come the international prize
winner,” Hardin said.
Bridges is the son of Wayne
and Dianna Bridges and a stu-
dent of Mrs. Ann Mauney, mid-

his principal, John Goforth, his
grandparents, Jones and Phylis
Sweezie, and his mother,
Dianna Bridges, who coaches
the KMHS girls basketball
team, were guests of the Kings
Mountain Lions Club at its
January 26 meeting at the Kings

There are several French ac
tivities going on at Kings
Mountain High School this year
and I would like to share a few
of them with you.
The favorite day of all our
French students is French cook-
ing day. The students take
French recipes home to make
and bring the finished product
back to school. We all share our
masterpieces and get a taste of
French culture.
