Herald/Times Photo contributed Children in the Kids Etc! program at Bethware School recently received a lesson in Sign Language from Ailene Williams. Mrs. Williams, whose own daughter lost her hearing around 13 months of age, explained the differences and similarities between English and Sign. She explained how deaf chil- dren leave home at age five to live at schools for special instruction and learning. She also pointed out that there is only one college for the deaf in the U.S. - in Washington, DC. The children were cap- tivated by Mrs. Williams’ lesson, appreciating and better understanding how the hearing impaired live and experience everyday life. He also showed a video about the different parts of the eyes and how they work together. MACARONI SALAD WILDA TROUT 2 handfuls macaroni 4 hard-boiled eggs 1/2 small can English peas 4 slices diced cheese 2 stalks celery 1 small onion 1 small bell pepper 1 raw carrot 2 tbsp. mayonnaise 1 tsp. sugar salt to taste To cooked macaroni, add all ingredients, draining the English peas before hand. Mix well with mayonnaise. Refrigerate and let stand for a couple of hours. This makes a large casserole, around 2 quarts, of salad. VEGETABLE SALAD ANN REEP 1 (16 0z.) can French style green beans 1 (15 0z.) can shoe peg corn 1(15 0z.) can English peas 1(2 0z.) jar pimentos 1/2 cup chopped green pepper 1 cup chopped celery 1/2 to 1 cup chopped onion 1 grated carrot Bring to a boil: 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup oil 3/4 cup vinegar salt and pepper Drain beans, corn, peas and pimento. Pour into mixing bowl. Add green pepper, celery, onion, and carrot; mix well. In a saucepan, add sugar, oil, vine- gar, salt, and pepper and bring to a boil.
