She was em- ployed as a custodian for Mount Holly Middle School, She was a member of Burge United Methodist Church where she served on the senior choir and usher board. She is survived by her hus- band, Rollin Alexander; sisters, Elizabeth Beaver of Atlanta and Gladys Garner of Kings Mountain; brothers, Billy Ray Garner of Kings Mountain and Jerry Garner of Grover; broth- ers-in-law, Spencer Beaver of Atlanta, Curt Alexander of Charlotte, and Deric Alexander of Gastonia; mother-in-law, Helen Alexander of Mount Holly; sisters-in-law, Joyce Garner of Grover, Deloris Alexander of Mount Holly, Azzilee Garner of Kings Mountain, and Linda Alexander of Belmont; two great-aunts, Ruthie Burris and Gertrude Adams; and nieces and nephews. JIM BEAM GROVER - Jim Beam, 77, 105 Amesbury Road, died March 6, 1999 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Samuel Monroe and Mollie Gilbreth Brown Beam, and husband of the late Valla Louise Beam. He was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church, and a member of Grover Lions Club. He was a volunteer with Grover Rescue Squad, and was retired from Minette Mills. He was a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by his daugh- ter, Lou Moss and husband, Nelson, of Grover; brother, Broadus Beam of Blacksburg, SC; sisters, Vinnie Hardin and Margaret Neely of Grover and Mary Lou Nichols of Shelby; granddaughter, Sandra Yow and husband, Jeff, of Grover; and - great-grandchildren, Heather and Cassie Yow. He was a retired mechanic at Burlington Industries, Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Oliver Cobb of Kings Mountain; sons, Buddy Ronald Cobb, Mitchell David Cobb, Douglas Edward Cobb and Michael Steven Cobb, all of Kings Mountain; daughters, Helen C. Sisk and Freida Cobb of Kings Mountain; brother, Baxter Short of Kings Mountain; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A graveside service was con- ducted by the Rev. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Noah George Albert and Ida Hord Yarbro. She was a retired hair dresser and a mem- ber of First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain. She was preceded in death by her husband, ].W. Webster; her brothers, Lee, William, Evans, Bennie and Jessie Yarbro; and her sister, Sallie Yarbro. She is survived by her broth- ers, John and Randolph Yarbro of Kings Mountain and Darvin Yarbro of Shelby. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings ‘Mountain. Moss Reservoir Commission will meet Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The group will hear a report from Lynne Webb and Bob Myers on activities updates; and hear reports on permit count, budget and expendi- tures, uses without leases, drop- ping the lake level, and hold a budget work session. The meeting is open to the public. Planning and Zoning Board meets Tuesday The Kings Mountain Planning and Zoning Board will meet Tuesday, March 16 a 5:30 p.m. The committee will hear a re- zoning request from Linda Farris to rezone property from Residential 10 to General Business, and discuss a R-20 zoning project. The meeting is open to the public. City employee earns" Roads Scholar Award Randy Conner, garage super- intendent for the City of Kings Mountain, recently received the North Carolina Roads Scholar Award, a professional develop- ment award for local govern- ment transportation personnel. The Roads Scholar Program recognizes local government personnel in the state who sig- nificantly increase their knowl- edge of road maintenance oper- ations by completing a series of training courses offered by the North Carolina Technology Transfer Centre, located in Raleigh, at the Institute for Transportation Research and Education, NC State University. This special training opportuni- ty is funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration, t.S. Department of Transportation. The North Carolina Technology Transfer Center is one of 55 centers nationwide that provide outreach to local transportation agencies. ITRE is a system-wide university trans- portation center, administered by North Carolina State University.
