Macedonia choir to present Easter program
Macedonia Baptist Church, 1101 South Battleground Avenue,
Kings Mountain, will present “Let All Heaven Rejoice” Friday,
March 26-Sunday, March 28 at 7 p.m. each night. The public is invit-

Macedonia youth sponsor Easter ham sale
The youth of Macedonia Baptist Church will sponsor their annual
Easter ham sale through Saturday, April 3.
A 71/2 to 81/2 pound semi-boneless ham will be offered,
cooked, for a donation of $20. Pick-up and deliver times are Friday,
April 2 from 8 a.m.-12 noon and 8-9 p.m., and Saturday, April 3 from
7-10 a.m.

Harvest Baptist plans Easter sunrise service
There will be an Easter sunrise service April 4 at 6:45 a.m. at
Harvest Baptist Church, 144 Wave Road, Kings Mountain. Following
the service, there will be a breakfast in the fellowship building.

Sunrise service set at Dixon Presbyterian
Dixon Presbyterian Church, 602 Dixon School Road, Kings :
Mountain, will have its annual Easter sunrise service and breakfast
on Sunday, April 4 at 6:30 a.m. at Dixon School.
Rev. Allan Sinclair, pastor, will bring the message.
Sunday School will be at 10 a.m., and morning worship at 11 a.m.

Gospel singing set at Tabernacle of Praise

The Tabernacle of Praise, 541 Crocker Road, Kings Mountain, will -
host a gospel singing featuring P.L. Summitt March 20 at 7 p.m.

Chicken pot pie dinner at Mary’s Grove
A chicken pot pie dinner will be held March 19 from 4:30-7:30
p-m. in the fellowship hall of Mary’s Grove United Methodist
Church.
Dinner includes chicken pie, slaw, green beans, beverage, roll and
dessert. The cost is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 6-10 and free for
ages 5-under. Dinner meals may be eaten in or carried out.
The fund-raiser is hosted by the youth to raise money for their ser-
vice projects.

Grove Church Road, Kings Mountain. Mary’s Grove Church Road
runs between Stony Point Road north of Woodbridge and Highway
274 south of Cherryville. Signs will be located at major intersections.

Special service set at People’s Baptist Church
Rev. Robert Haynes will be the speaker at a special fellowship ser-
vice Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Kings
Mountain.

There will be a gospel singing Saturday; March 20 from Tam. |
until 9 p.m. at Grover Rescue Squad.
Local church groups and Grover Rescue Squad members will pro-
vide the entertainment. Donations will be accepted for the Rescue
Squad.
Hot dogs and refreshments will be available.

There will be a gospel singing March 21 at 6 p.m. at Bethany
Baptist Church in Grover. Featured group will be The Kinds
Prophets.

Hunter's Camp set
at KM Military Park
Kings Mountain National
Military Park will begin its 1999
Special Events schedule on
Saturday, March 20, by present-
ing "A Backcountry Hunter's
Camp," a living history pro-
gram that will reveal an inter-
esting perspective on the daily
lives of those who lived during
the American Revolution.
The upper region of South
Carolina was prime hunting
ground during the 18th century.
James Glen, an early Governor
of South Carolina, stated that
the land was "the most delight-
ful as well as the most fertile, in
the world, abounding in large
and extensive plains and savan-
nas, swarming with deer and
buffalo." This pristine landscape
was perfect for the people of the
backcountry who occasionally
went on "longhunts" away from
their homes. The purpose of the
"longhunt” was to either gain a
great quantity of meat or to ac-
quire hides which could be sold
for scarce hard money.
It is ironic that two patriot
battle participants, Major
William Chronicle and Captain
John Mattocks had a hunt camp
on Kings Mountain and were
well acquainted with the area

The Revolutionary Folklife
Interpreters from Historic
Brattonsville will interpret the
life of a "Hunters Camp." This
group known for its authentic
interpretation of the
Revolutionary period will cre-
ate an opportunity for visitors
to discover what folks like
Daniel Boone and other
longhunters were all about.
Some of the activities of the
camp will include: displays of
the hunter's equipment, flint
and steel firemaking, primitive
cooking methods, primitive
shelters, bullet molding, the
role of the American longrifle as
a tool, and other camp activi-
ties. :
The camp will open at 9:30
and will continue throughout
the day. Admission is free.
Kings Mountain National
Military Park is open daily from
9 am until 5 pm. The visitor
center features an 18-minute
film, "Kings Mountain: Turning °
Point in the South,” a museum
exhibit area, and bookstore. The
1.5 mile Battlefield Trail and the
16-mile hiking trail also origi-
nate from the visitor center.
