Holy Week services at Saint Matthew's
Two Maundy Thursday services will be held on April 1 at Saint
Matthews Lutheran Church, Kings Mountain.
The midday spoken service of Holy Communion begins at 12:15.
The service is designed to last less than one hour so working folk
may participate during their lunch hour.
The evening service will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a service
of individual absolution with laying on of hands and Holy
Communion. Young people who have completed their first commu-
nion instruction will receive the Sacrament. The first communicants
will be Heather Smith-Wilson, Audrey Starke and Stephenie Stark.
At the close of the evening service all linens, brass and silverware
will and other colorful items will be removed during the Stripping
of the Altar as a reminder of the humiliation of Christ during His
last hours prior to His crucifixion.
~ Two services will be held on Good Friday, April 2. The midday
service for the Adoration of the Cross will begin at 12:15. Evening
worship, beginning at 7 p.m., will be the ancient spoken service of
Tenebrae or Service of Shadows. This simple, yet moving service re-
calls the events surrounding the Lord's trial and death. At the close
of the service the congregation will leave the darkened Nave in si- -
lence as a memorial of Christ's sacrifice for the sins of the world.
The Lord's Resurrection will be observed with an Easter Festival
Celebration of Holy Communion at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 4. The
service will include a full procession with choirs, torches and book
bearer.
The public is invited to all services.
Macedonia youth sponsor Easter ham sale
The youth of Macedonia Baptist Church will sponsor their annual
Easter ham sale through Saturday, April 3.
A 71/2 to 81/2 pound semi-boneless ham will be offered,
cooked, for a donation of $20. Pick-up and delivery times are Friday,
ral 2 from 8 a.m.-12 noon and 8-9 p.m., and Saturday, April 3 from
-10 a.m.

Harvest Baptist plans Easter sunrise service
There will be an Easter sunrise service April 4 at 6:45 a.m. at
Harvest Baptist Church, 144 Wave Road, Kings Mountain. Following
the service, there will be a breakfast in the fellowship building.

Easter services set at Dixon Presbyterian
Dixon Presbyterian Church, 602 Dixon School Road, Kings
Mountain, has planned two special services during Holy Week.
A Tenebrae service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 2 in the
sanctuary. The service will be led by the choir, directed by Nancy
Hughes.
A sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 4 in the
parking lot of Dixon School. Breakfast will be served immediately
following. :
Sunday School will be held at 10 a.m., and morning worship at 11
a.m.
The public is invited.
Chestnut Ridge Baptist sets BBQ sale
Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church youth will hold a barbecue plate
sale Friday and Saturday, April 9-10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. each day.
‘The cost is $6 per plate and includes BBQ, bun, slaw, baked beans,

Bethlehem Baptist youth set bake sale
The youth of Bethlehem Baptist Church will sponsor a bake sale
on Saturday, April 3 from 8:30-11 a.m. at 1017 Bethlehem Road,
Kings Mountain. All money raised will be used to support their
summer mission trip. There will be cakes, cookies, pies, and an as-
sortment of other baked goods.
Easter drama at Shingle Hollow Holiness
The Easter drama “Victory Was Won at Calvary” will be presented
Easter Sunday at 7 p.m. at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness
Church in Rutherfordton. Admission is free. For more information,

Christian Singles to meet at KM Park
The April gathering of Cleveland County Christian Singles will
be held Saturday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Kings Mountain State
Park shelter #1.
Each person is encouraged to take a picnic lunch and drinks, and
invite a friend.
The cost is $1 to cover the cost of the shelter.
. The group plans fellowship, hiking, paddle boating, and putt-
putt golf.
Church Women annual banquet is May 6
Becky Powell will be the speaker at the annual Kings Mountain
Council of Church Women banquet May 6 at 6 p.m. at Kings
Mountain Baptist Church.
Powell lives in Shelby and is married to Dr. Jess Powell, radiolo-
gist in Shelby and King Mountain. She is a homemaker and mother
of a 13-year-old.
She is a member of Grace Fellowship Church, the Community
Bible Study group, and the Christian Women’s Club.

Holy Week services set at Mary's Grove
Holy Week services are scheduled at Mary’s Grove United
Methodist Church, 1223 Mary’s Grove Church Road, Kings
Mountain. :
A Good Friday service will be held Friday, April 2 at 7 p.m. The
service will include Holy Communion and Tenebrae.
On Saturday at 10 a.m., an Easter egg hunt will be held on the
church grounds (or inside if weather doesn’t permit outdoor activi-
ties). Children of all ages are encouraged to attend. Children should
take an Easter basket only. Over 300 eggs filled with candy and
goodies will be provided. Preschoolers and school age children will —
have different areas in which to hunt eggs. :
Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6 a.m., Sunday, April 4.
Breakfast will be served in the fellowship hall after the service. A
special “He is Risen” balloon will be released after the breakfast.
Easter worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Church picnic and egg hunt at Foursquare
The annual church picnic and Easter egg hunt will be held
Saturday, April 3 at 12 noon at Foursquare Gospel Church, 1128
York Road, Kings Mountain. hi
Prizes will be awarded to the children in various categories.
There will be fee food, fun and fellowship. The public is invited.
