ROBERT LEE SMITH III (Lisa Michele Toms) Toms-Smith Lisa Michele Toms of Hickory and Robert Lee Smith III of Shelby exchanged their wedding vows June 12 at 3 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church, Shelby. Rev. Jim Brackett officiated. Ann Harbinson, organist; Susan Canipe, pianist; Gene Ellis, trumpeter; and Tracy and Teresa Jessup, vocal- ists, presented a program of wedding music. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John William Toms of Shelby. She is a graduate of Meredith College with a BA in English with elementary education certification. She received her MA in elementary education from Appalachian State University. She is employed with Hickory Public Schools at Viewmont Elementary. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Wacaster Toms of Rutherfordton and the late Thomas Monroe Toms, and Mrs. Yates Toney of Ellenboro and the late Mr. Toney. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Smith Jr. of Kings Mountain. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a BA in Journalism. He holds a BA in Architecture and a Bachelors of Architecture from UNC- Charlotte. He is employed as an architect with Talley and Smith Architecture in Shelby. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Smith Sr. of Spartanburg, SC, and Mrs. William Walker Smoak of Camden, SC, and the late Mr. Smoak, and the late George Hamlin O’Kelley of + Bishopwville, SCs rusher Bk The bride was given in marriage by her fa- ther. She wore an Italian bridal matte satin gown with a sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves. The gown featured a princess silhou- ette adorned with Chinese style embroidery in a floral design embellished with sequins along the semi-cathedral train. She carried a cascad- ing bouquet of white lilies, roses and stephan- otis. Maid of Honor was the bride's sister, Angela Maria Toms of Hickory. Bridesmaids were Pamela McBrayer Bailey of Lynchburg, VA, Doctor Ann Elizabeth Hiott of Winston-Salem, and Leigh Kielwein Ulrich of Rocky Mount. They wore two-piece slim floor length dresses of navy dream chiffon. The tops were sleeveless and edged with pleating at the hem. They car- ried nosegays of daisies and yellow roses. Rebecca Carlisle Broadway of Kings Mountain was flower girl. Austin O’Kelley Broadway of King Mountain distributed wed- ding bubbles. Robert Lee Smith of Kings Mountain, father of the groom, was best man. Ushers were Harrison Matthew Clement of Cary, Steven Craig Fender of Gastonia, Gordan Ray Hall of Charlotte, and David Alan Lawrence of Hickory. The bride’s parents hosted the reception at Epworth Building. The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at The White House. Following a wedding trip to Charleston, SC, the couple will reside in Shelby. i MRS. TODD WAYNE DAVIS (Patricia Denise Freeman) Freeman-Davis Patricia Denise Freeman of Kings Mountain and Todd Wayne Davis of Shelby exchanged their marriage vows at 7 p.m., May 29 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Shelby. Rev. Terry Cagle officiated. Geremy McSwain, organist and soloist; and soloists Chris Triplett and Morgan Vassey presented a program of wedding music. The bride is the daughter of Charles Dean and Lona Freeman of Kings Mountain. She is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School and Cleveland Community College, and is em- ployed at Second Glance Salon and Tanning of Shelby. The groom is the son of Cynthia Davis and Larry and Cheryl Davis, all of Shelby. He is a graduate of Crest High School and is employed by Freightliner of Gastonia. The bride was given in marriage by her fa- ther and mother, Charles Dean Freeman and Lona Freeman. She wore a traditional style flowing, white satin bridal gown of satin and lace and pearls with a sequined fitted bodice. It had a V-neckline with long sleeves, Cathedral length train which was fully sequined with lots of detail and cut outs. The headpiece was Tiara style entirely covered with sequins and pearls. The veil was snow white and was waist length. She carried a bouquet of corn leaf, Baby's breath Cascade Foine of Ruberi Lillys and or- chids, spray orchids, purple white roses, purpie statice, ivy, Ruberi lillys, and purple buttons. Matron of Honor was Sheree Smith of Kings Mountain. Maid of Honor was Nancy Ely. Bridesmaids were Nancy Ely and Kim Hollifield of Kings Mountain, Tracy Hasting and Ryan Travis of Shelby, and Wendy Dendy of Lawndale. They wore Aubergine, floor- length gowns with diamond cut out in back, and small trains. They wore silver sandals and carried arm bouquets of Rubin Lillys and greenery. Mikayla Smith was flower girl and Blake Hollifield was ring bearer. Best man was Larry Davis of Shelby. Ushers were Randy Howell of Gastonia, Kyle Travis, Eric Davis and Sean Hasting, all of Shelby, and PJ. Cook of Grover. : Cynthia Davis and Larry and Cheryl Davis hosted the reception in the family life building of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Charles Dean and Lona Freeman hosted the rehearsal dinner in the family life building. The couple’s wedding trip was to Cancun, Mexico. Arts Council sets summer camp The Cleveland County Arts Council has planned the follow- ing events for the summer camp for rising first through eighth graders. For more infor- mation call the Arts Council at 484-2787. All events are at the "Arts Center runless otherwise indicated. June 21-25 - Tarzana Extravaganza; instructors Doug Pruett and Barbara McNeely. Students will draw, paint and build such things as masks, mu- sial instruments, and pottery, while playing African games, singing African songs and learning sign language. June 21-25 - Wire Sculpture & Paper Mache at Kings Mountain Middle School. Instructor Anne Mauney. Students will create their own three-dimensional reproduc- tions from the movie “A Bug's Life,” and produce other unique works of art while exploring the domain of three-dimensional design using a variety of media such as paper mache, plaster, wood and more. July 19-23 - Clay Play II, with instructor Jamie Boyles. Clay II students will have the opportu- nity to work on the potter’s wheel. The class is open to pre- vious Clay Play students or anyone with prior clay experi- ence. Hours are 9:30-11:30 for first through third grades and 1- 3 p.m. for fourth through eighth graders. The cost is $45 per week and registration must be by mail or in person and pay- ment must be received with registration. June 28-July 2, Music Camp with Ms. Ashley, 9 a.m.-12 noon for 5-10 year olds. Cost $75. This is a musical approach to studying several habitats in which people and animals live. Destinations are “High on a Mountain,” “Where Cold Winds Blow,” “Under the Sea,” and “Deep in the Rain Forest.” There will be snacks from each . habitat provided daily. New this year are two stu- dent field trips. Rising first through third graders will go to Asheville to Pack Place and a tour of four museums. The cost for the chartered bus trip is $21 per person and parents are in- vited. On July 8, rising fourth- eighth graders will leave at 7 a. m. to go to the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh. Leonard Johnson officiated. Lisa Glover, pianist, and Tiffany Ramsey, vocal soloist, pre- sented a program of wedding music. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Brannon of Kings Mountain. She is a 1997 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and attended Gaston College. She currently attends Carolina’s College of Health Sciences, Charlotte. She is the granddaughter of W.E. Conard of Lockhart, SC, and the late Ludie G. Conard; and the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brannon of Union, SC. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Guy of Gastonia. He is a 1995 graduate of Ashbrook High School and is employed by The Cookson Co., Gastonia. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurance Guy of Gastonia, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cable of Gastonia. The bride was given in marriage by her fa- ther, Dean Brannon. She wore a gown of ivory satin, empire waist with pearls and sequined crystals and a train with embroidered flowers, fitted bodice and full shirt. She carried a bou- quet of yellow dukat roses, purple iris, white daisies and snowflakes. Maid of Honor was Deanna Byrd of Stanley. - Bridesmaids were Katye Falls of Gaffney, SC, Misty Smith of Kings Mountain, Melissa McFee of Dallas, and Beth Brown of Gastonia. Morgan Williams was flower girl and Tyler Shumaker was ring bearer. Ronald Guy was his son’s best man. Ushers were Paul Brannon of Kings Mountain, brother of the bride; and Matthew Garris, Adam Gregory, and Joshua Guy, brother of the groom, all of Gastonia. The bride’s parents hosted the reception in the church fellowship hall. The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at Carolina Country Bar B-Que in Gastonia. ELIZABETH DAYLE MOODY (Bride-elect of Daniel Brandon McCorquodale) Moody-McCorquodale Mr. and Mrs. Dell Moody of Kings Mountain announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Dayle of High Point, to Daniel Brandon McCorquodale, also of High Point. The bride-elect is a 1996 summa cum laude graduate of High Point University wit a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She is cur- rently a third-year graduate student at Wake Forest University pursuing a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry. The bridegroom-elect is the son of Ms. Frances R. McCorquodale of High Point and the late John D. McCorquodale. He is a 1995 summa cum laude graduate of High Point University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, with a concentration in Computer Science, and a 1996 graduate of Wake Forest University with a Master of Science in Computer Science. He is employed by Gilbarco, Inc. in Greensboro as a software engineer. A July 24, 1999 wedding is planned at the Charles E. Hayworth Chapel at High Point University.
