No response at hearing on 4-year term The public was mum Tuesday night during a public hearing by City Council on res- olution of intent to amend the city charter and call for a vote at the polls in November on changing the terms of office to four years for the mayor and city council. - The vote by council will come at a special meeting August 4 at 6:30 p.m. at city hall. Mayor Scott Neisler, who is not running for reelection, is a strong proponent of reinstating the four year term because of what he sees as a need for “con- tinuity.” “Every seat is up again this year in November and a city our size with a $20 million bud- get deserves experienced lead- ership,” said Neisler who was the only member of council to speak. “If the:General Assembly... | would allow it I would support a two year staggered term be- cause terms need to be stag- gered to add stability to the board,” he said. He said the change from four year to two year term was ap- proved by a small turnout of citizens. Now is the time for cit- izens to speak out, he said, since the referendum could be held at the same time as the municipal election. The U. S. Justice Department must approve the special refer- endum. KM recognizes longtime empl The city is recognizing ployees for long service.
