July 22, 1999 The Kings duns Women's Club hosted a dinner and seminar at their clubhouse recently. Some of “the ladies in at endance included, left to right; Johnsie Reavis, Betty Graham, and Linda Dixon. State president pays a visit to Kings Mountain Woman’s Club “GFWC- America’s Leaders,” highlighted the importance of membership at the Summer Tour of the GFWC-NC District IV held at the Kings Mountain Woman's Club Clubhouse on July 15. District Iv President, Carol Clemmer, presided. The GFWC-Kings Mountain Club hosted the eventand the meal. GFWC-NC State President Jane Carver and the State Performing Arts Chairman Linda Mendenhall along with forty-five guests‘attended. State President Carver pre- sented a workshop for club- . women spelling out the tenets of leadership. District IV President Clemmer distributed certificates designating Bessemer City WC, Kings Mountain WC, and the WC of Gastonia as Honor Clubs. Certificates for the Mother’s Day Tea Campaign, for 1998- a special tribute to clubs who support the fight against Cystic Fibrosis- were presented to Gastonia Junior WC and Tri- Community WC. GFWC-NC 2nd Vice President, Carol Lewis, chair of the District Transition Team, spoke about redistricting. Betty Gamble, President of GFWC-KM, welcomed mem- bers to Kings Mountain and to the clubhouse by noting the his- torical connection of Kings Fredericks Marty and Debbie Frederick celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 26 at the Family Life Center of the Kings Mountain Church of God. The activities were hosted by the families of the couple, Sue and Carl Strickland, mother and Mountain as the turning point of the Revolutionary War in the South and to the clubhouse which also had a lot of local his- tory within its walls. The clubhouse has been the central meeting place ‘and the home of many civic im- provement projects over the years. note 25th anniversary step-father of Mrs. Frederick; Annie Ruth Frederick, mother of Mr. Frederick; and June Grigg, sister of Mr. Frederick. They were joined in their cele- bration by members of the orig- inal wedding party, friends, family and out-of-town guests. Guests enjoyed a variety of hors’d’oeuvres, cake and punch. The room was decorated in the couples’ original wed- ding colors, pictures of their wedding and accented with beautiful ceramic angels. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick and their daughter, Lindsay Brooke, reside in Richmond, VA. County zoning meetings planned The Cleveland County Chamber, along with represen- tatives from Cleveland County government, is conducting a se- ries of information and input sessions on countywide land- use planning and zoning. The sessions are scheduled to begin this month and will be held at sites across the county. The schedule includes four sessions, each one on a Thursday, with the first one planned for July 22 at Boiling Springs Elementary School. The second session will take place on August 5 at Bethware Elementary School, and the third will be at Township Three Elementary School on August 12. the final session will be August 19 at the Community Center in Lawndale. All ses- sions begin at 7 pm and addi- tional sessions will be planned to accommodate senior citizens and other groups. Bill McCarter, Cleveland County planning director, will . be the lead presenter at each session. His presentation will focus on land use planning and zoning within the overall con- text of growth management. The discussions are free and open to the public. The presentation on planning and zoning can be given by re- quest for civic and other com- munity groups.. Request can be made through the Chamber by calling 487-8521. County Republicans host first family day The Cleveland County Republican Party held its first annual Family Day Saturday, July 10 at the Shelby Carousel. The Republican Party opened the carousel free to all families and their children from 10 a.m.- 12 noon. Rides on the errors] were paid for by the Republican par- ty. Refreshments were also served. Over 100 people attend- ed. “The Cleveland County Republican Party did this both as a thank you to the public for electing a Republican majority to the County Commission, and more importantly, to give fami- lies a fun day at the carousel at no charge,” said GOP chairman Tim Moore. “Politics has often become negative and controver- ‘sial, we knew this event would show a different side to politics and allow the public to know that Republicans truly care about families, not only about winning elections.
