DEEN conn RICK MURPHREY MAYOR First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the citizens of Kings Mountain for granting me the privilege to serve on the Kings Mountain City Council for the past six years. These past few years have been exciting times for Kings Mountain. I feel proud to have served with the Mayor, other council members, the City Manager; and our city employees to ensure progress, prosperity, and a better quality of life for our fine citizens. All of the people of Kings Mountain should take pride in the progressive strides we have made in the past few years. In the interest of brevity, I would like to list just a few: * Construction of 1.7 million dollar police department building *Continued to expand natural gas system : «Improvements in parks and grounds at Deal Street and Davidson including Kings Mountain swimming pool, paving of walking track, construction of new ball field and new soccer complex * Designed plans and purchased property for new Senior Center (received $100,000 grant for building and appropriated $500,000 within the 1999-2000 budget, accomplishing approximately 50% of the building program) *Began construction on new children’s wing for Mauney Memorial Library Strengthened financial position of the city rom iting in the bond rating being upgraded *Named one of the “Top 50 Cities in America for Corporate Facilities” by Site Selection Magazine For those of you who are not familiar with me, I am Vice-President of Sales for Spectrum Dyed Yarns. I have worked for this company and lived in ings Mountain for the past 26 years. I am a graduate of Atlantic Christian College with a B.S. in business administration. My wife Sandra and I live on Garrison Drive and we have one daughter, Tracy, who resides in Hickory. We are all members of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. As an active businessman with 30 years experience in sales, I am excited about the potential to “sell” Kings Mountain. I would love to have the opportunity to work with local and state leaders in bringing new businesses into our area. This would provide more and better jobs as well as reducing the tax burden on our citizens. During my career in sales I have discovered an old timeworn adage, “The more you have to offer, the easier the sale”. When it comes to positives to offer, Kings Mountain brings a lot to the economic development table. I would like to list just a few: » Unlimited water supply in Moss Lake and treatment facility (in a time when many communities are urging water conservation) +Excellent water and gas systems (I would like to see us continue to expand our gas system) *Complete the study of the new water line into town and the feasibility of the existing line ' *Opening of Kings Mountain Industrial Park *Opening of Cleveland County Industrial Park (Sara Lee Intimate Apparel Corp. will be the first to locate in the new park providing 800 jobs. The facility will be 370,000 square feet in size and an investment of over $12 million) «Close proximity to 4 major routes of transportation: 1-85, 74 Business & 74 Bypass, Southern Railroad, and Charlotte International Airport * A staff of city smployess second to none (working with them during the recent ice storms and many al projects, I experienced the teamwork, dedication, and pride they have in getting the job done I am extremely proud of the accomplishments our city has made during this period of transition and renewed prosperity, which would not have been possible without the backing and support of the people of Kings Mountain. In city government, like any other successful business entity, you must have a strong team of visionaries working closely together to build a better future for the community and its citizens. The city is at a crossroads on the road to progress. I know with your help and support I can provide the leadership as mayor to move down the right road to accomplish our goals and visions. Let's continue the progress. I would appreciate your vote and support on Nov. 2nd for Mayor of Kings Mountain. This is my hope in my heart. Thank you and God bless you all. Let's Continue the Progress.
