Lillian and Jerry Stawls of Meadowbrook Road in Kings Mountain were giving their lawn a good
raking recently. With cool weather finally arriving, the leaves were falling by the basketful.
COOKING CORNER
SWEET POTATO PIE
FAYE BENNETT =
4 cups cooked sweet potatoes
1 large can cream
21/2 cups sugar
2 sticks margarine
1 tbsp. vanilla
dash cinnamon
2 eggs :
Mix and pour ingredients in
unbaked pie shells. Bake at 350
degrees for 20 to 30 minutes.
CHEESE RING
BETTY BENTON
11b. sharp cheese, grated
1 small onion, chopped fine
1 cup pecans, chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
salt and pepper to taste
Combine ingredients. Place in
small ring mold. Refrigerate. ,
When ready to serve, remove
from mold onto plate. Serve
with crackers.

Graham crackers
1 cup sugar
2 sticks margarine
1/2 cup milk

1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
& 1 cup gacomist sae LL
& 1 cup.pegans visa "8
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Line a 9x13 pan with graham
crackers and set aside. Mix to-
gether sugar, margarine, 1/2
cup milk, egg and 1 teaspoon
vanilla. Let boil 5 minutes. Add
graham cracker crumbs, co-
conut and pecans. Mix well and
spread over crackers in pan.
Add another layer of graham
crackers. Mix together the pow-
dered sugar, 1 teaspoon milk
and vanilla. Spread over layer
of crackers. Cut and serve. Also
good kept in refrigerator.

1 med. head cabbage
1 carrot
1 bell pepper
. 1 tsp. salt
- I cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
11/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. whole mustard seed
Shred cabbage, sprinkle 1 tea-
spoon salt and let stand 1 hour.
While cabbage is standing,
make syrup, vinegar, water,
sugar, celery seed whole mus-
tard seed and boil 1 minute. Set
aside to cool. Squeeze cabbage
after soaking, add grated carrot
and pepper. Pour syrup over
cabbage mixture and freeze.

1 cup chopped nuts, pecans
1 small can coconut
Beat egg whites and set
aside. Cream margarine and
shortening. Add sugar and beat
until smooth. add egg yolks
and beat. Combine flour/soda,
sift flour 3 times. Add alternate-
ly with buttermilk the flour/so-
da mixture. Stir in vanilla. Add
coconut and nuts. Fold in egg
whites. Pour into three 9 inch
greased pans. Bake at 350 de-
grees for 25 minutes.
ITALIAN CREAM
CAKE FROSTING
1 eight pounce pkg. cream
cheese
1/2 stick margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
1 box 10X sugar
3/4-1 cup chopped pecans
Beat cream cheese and mar-
garine until smooth, add vanil-
la, mix well. Frost top, sides of
cake and sprinkle top with nuts.

1 Ib hamburger meat
1/2 cup catsup
1 big can pinto beans :
il pkg. cornbread: mix 1 7 |
{iBrown hamburger meat, add’
green pepper and onions. Add
catsup to pinto beans and mix
with the hamburger mixture.
Put in 9x13 pan. Mix cornbread
mix. Put on top of bean mix-
ture. Bake at 350 degrees until
brown on top.
