ADAM CARPENTER Adam Wayne Carpenter to note first birthday Adam Wayne Carpenter will be one year old on December 14. He is the son of Wayne and Michele Carpenter. Grandparents are Charles and Carolyn Taylor and Betty Weaver. OBITUARIES Herald/Times December 9, 1999 CECIL K. SUTTON GREENSBORO - Cecil K. Sutton, 77, 1518 Oriole Place, died Saturday, December 4, 1999 at Evergreens Nursing Center. A native of Greensboro, he was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was a re- tired instructor with Guilford Technical Community College teaching the mentally handi- capped. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Margie Frederick Tucker of the home; sister, Mable Tucker of Greensboro; brother, Arthur R. Sutton of Greensboro; nine nieces and 14 nephews. The funeral was held Monday at 11 a.m. at Hanes- Lineberry Funeral Home. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Gideon Living Memorial Bible Plan, ¢/o Gary Deese, 110 S. JACOB PAYNE BESSEMER CITY - Jacob Lee Tyler Payne, age two weeks, 211 East Georgia Avenue, died Friday, December 3, 1999 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Charles O. Baggett of Bessemer City and Misty Dawn Payne of the home. He is also survived by his pa- ternal grandparents, Jesse O. and Margaret E. Baggett of Bessemer City; maternal grand- mother, Sarah Hayes of Bessemer City; sister, Lillian Shyann Marie Payne of the home; and a number of cousins, uncles and aunts. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Conley Elwood Payne. A graveside service was’ con- ducted by the Rev. A native of Topeka, Kansas, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Amvets, American Legion, and VFW. JUANITA OXFORD SHELBY- Juanita Moore Oxford, 82, 503 Woodland Drive, Kings Mountain, died November 30, 1999 at Lincoln Medical Center. A native of Highland County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George Liston Moore and Nancy Alma Piercy Moore. She was the widow of the late Rev. Charles Earl Oxford. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. She was a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church and a former member of Oak View Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for 60 years. She is survived by her son Charles Oxford, Jr. of Gastonia; daughter Nancy O. Rhyne of Kings Mountain; daughter and son in law Bobbie O. Mraz and Andrew of Kings Mountain; al- so three grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral was conducted Friday at 11 am at Kings Mountain Baptist Church by the Revs. Mike Chambers and Olin Byrum. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Morganton, N.C. Edward Clark, 81, Autumn... Care, died ‘December 2, 1999 at Rutherford Hospital. A native of Jefferson County, GA, he was the son of the late Ernest Duffey and Minnie Lou Phillips Clark,a nd husband of the late Mary Blanton Clark. He was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II with service in the Pacific Theatre and on the destroyer, Escort. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bruce Clark; brothers, Hubert Clark, Cecil . Clark and Hugh Lee Clark; sis- ter, Desma Short; and grandson, Bruce Clark. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rufus and Estelle Clark of Patterson Springs; sister, Thelma Anthony of Kings Mountain; sister and brother-in-law, Inez and Alfred Nanney of Shelby; sister, Marie Wease of Kings Mountain; sons, Frank Conley Clark of Earl and Gary Clark of Shelby; special niece, Kelli Diane Clark; grand- daughter, Sherry Ann Barclay; and three great-grandchildren. JUNIOR SMITH BLACKSBURG, S.C.- Junior Smith, 66, 136 Shell Rd., Paty S.C., died November 30, 1999 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center, Gaffney, S.C. A na- tive of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Eueal Elijah Smith. He was retired from Parkdale Mills in Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife Jean Smith of Blacksburg; sons Jamey Smith and wife Pam of Charlotte, Michael Hartsoe of Kings Mountain; daughters Kelly Watts of Grover, Lisa Kirby and husband Steve of Kings Mountain, Kim Kornelak "and husband Mario of Blacksburg; mother Ivey Martin Smith of Kings Mountain; brothers Johnny Smith and Ed Goforth, both of Kings Mountain; sisters Judy Goins, Penny Weaver, Pat Welch, all of Kings Mountain; also 15 grand- children and seven great grand- children. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Peeler and Hannah Mae Baxter Melton. A native of Kings Mountain, she was born on March 3, 1930, a daughter of Charles Edward Blalock Sr. and the late Dorothy Mae Miller Blalock. She'was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1948. In 1968 she became the first wom- an real estate broker in Kings Mountain'and later became a charter member of Kings Mountain Association of Realtors. She was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church where she served in many ca- pacities and was a member of Flora Halliday Circle. She was a former member of Kings “Mountain Woman’s Club. She accompanied and complement- ed ‘her husband during his tenure as District Governor for International ‘Association of Lions Clubs and also as Wood Badge Deputy Camp Chief for Boy Scouts of America. In retirement, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins and spending time with her family, grandchil- dren and lifelong friends. She will be remembered as a mother and grandmother. She will also be known by her friends for her jovial sense of humor and her dedicated friendships. She is survived by her hus- band of ‘over 50° years, William Donald Crawford; granddaug h- tet, Angela’ Kay avis SF Rigs Mountain; grandson, William Paul Cornwell of Charlotte; and great-granddaughter, Kelsie Kay Davis of Kings Mountain. She is also survived by her fa- ther, Charles Edward Blalock Sr. of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Sybil Hamrick and Frieda Grayson of Kings Mountain; and one brother, Charles Edward Blalock Jr. of Kings Mountain.
