A native of Union, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Luke and Edna Sanders Gallman. She was the wife of the late Boyce “Jack” Smith.She was a homemaker and a mem- ber of First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain. EDITH HUGHES SHELBY- Edith Hughes Edwards, 86, 4204 Marriman Drive, Plano, Texas, died January 12, 2000 at Creekside Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, Plano, Texas. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Buren and Affie Bridges Hughes. She was the wife of the late William David Edwards. She was a retired LPN Private Duty Nurse and a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son Wayne and Hazel Edwards of Plano, Texas; also one grand- child. He was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Hugh Falls Sunday School class and served as a Deacon. He was a member of the Lions Club for 57 years. He was al- so preceded in death by broth- ers Robert Hewitt and Ford Hewitt, and son Steven Clarence Hewitt. He was owner and operator of Cleveland Pest Control and a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge #202. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Effie Popes and Lottie Wells Kale, stepson Flay Kale, Jr., brothers Walter Wray and James Wray, sisters Sally Lancaster and Kittalee Allen. He was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church, and a member of the local Masonic Temple and Shrine Club. He served in the ‘U.S. Navy in WWII in the European Theater. He is survived by sons David L. Wray and wife Cheryl of Wilmington, N.C., and Brian P.
