After graduating only one se- nior, the Mountaineers are go- ing to be returning a strong group of players, led by Co- Conference Player of the Year Napaphone Ratsavong. Five other Mountaineers also received All-Conference players strong, but Potter has a freshman class that is loaded with talent. Twelve ninth graders have moved up from the Middle School team that lost only one game in two years. Amanda Johnsonbaugh is go- ing to be the junior varsity coach and will be assisting Potter with the varsity. Johnsonbaugh was a three-year player on the men’s team dur- ing her years at KMHS. Wrestlers win District crown Kings Mountain High's wrestlers added the District Championship to their Southwestern 3A Conference regular season a nd tournament crowns Tuesday night at the KMHS gym. The Mountaineers defeated Asheboro 46-32 in the opening round, and then edged Northwest Cabarrus 36-35 in the championship match. The Mountaineers will host the Western Regional Tournament Thursday begin- ning at 6 p.m. The Mountaineers will wrestle Central Cabarrus and Enka will face Tuscola in Sectional match- es, and the two winners will battle for the Western Championship and the right to face the Eastern Champion for the State Dual Team Championship. The final four teams in the East are Fuquay-Varina, Eden Morehead, Aycock and Havelock. They will meet Thursday at Fuquay-Varina.
