BRIEFLY Basketball camp planned at KM High The 18th annual Champions ‘of Tomorrow Basketball Camp will be held May 29-June 3 from 8 a.m.-12 noon at Kings ‘Mountain High School. Camp Director is KMHS Coach Larry Sipe. = Campers will receive 20 ‘hours of instruction, plus a lim- ited schedule on Saturday morning. All campers will re- ceive a basketball, t-shirt, hand- book and certificate. The fee is $50. For more information call Coach Sipe at 734-5647. Girls softball camp planned at KM High - Kings Mountain High's first girls fast-pitch softball camp will be held June 19-22 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. © The camp is open to second graders through rising 9th graders. The cost is $40, with $20 due with the application and the second payment due on June 19. The cost onthe day of camp is $50. The fee is $30 for each additional family member. KMHS baseball coach Tony Leigh and KMHS softball coach Ricky Fortner are directors. Other area coaches will also participate. Base running, bunting, catching, fielding, hit- ting, pitching and throwing wil be emphasized. Prizes and tro- phies will be awarded. SPORTS Kings Mountain High's swimmers continued their successful season Saturday in the Western Regional meet at Davidson College. The boys finished fourth overall and the girls finished 12th out of 30 teams from the region. Several of KM’s athletes won medals in their events, and many others contributed to the teams’ point totals. The top eight times in each division qualified for the State Championship to be held this Friday at N.C. State University. Medalists included Abby Haynes, Derek Wilson, Naoki Nishiyama (2), Trent Goforth, Daniel Miller and Ben Sabetti. Medalists must have finished first, second or third place. Several Kings Mountain swimmers broke school records at the meet. Wendy Neisler set a new record of 107.04 in the 100 back and the girls 200 free relay team (Meghan Potter, Sarah Propst, Laura Propst and Wendy Neisler) set a new record of 154.92. stroke. eighth. third. Coach Aubrey Hollifield’s Mountaineers won the Southwestern 3A Conference with an 11-1 record and finished 18-3 overall. First-year Coach Lamont Littlejohn’s Lady Mountaineers finished second in the SWC with a 6-2 conference and 10-6 overall record. The JV boys defeated South Point 60-56 as Tyler Adams scored 12 points Preston Cole 11 and Josh Gash 10. Cole also had seven rebounds. Roberts had four assists and two steals. The Mountaineers defeated Forestview 58-40 as Gash scored 13 points and Brandon Houze 10. Gash and Cortney Smith had six rebounds each.
