In an ongoing effort to eliminate surface water from our
sanitary sewers, contract workers will be in Kings
Mountain for the next several weeks investigating areas
of concern. They will be working for long hours and in
unexpected places. Despite efforts to be otherwise, they
will sometimes be noisy. They will be mainly, but not
entirely, along streams where our larger lines are located.
Smoke is one of the key methods they will use. This
smoke is chemically generated and is harmless. It shows
openings in the sewers where water can enter. However,
should any of this smoke enter buildings the point of
entry should be located and eliminated. The smoke is
harmless, but not the other gasses which can use the
same points of entry. These other gasses can be deadly
and should be eliminated quickly.
When roof drains, yard drains, or other points where
rain water can enter the sanitary sewers are located,
property owners will be given reasonable time to
eliminate them. Entry points found on public property or
rights-of-way will be corrected by city forces.
