bans big rig
truck parking
"BY ALAN HODGE
Staff Writer
Owners of tractor-trailer
trucks who think of parking
their rigs in Grover’s Spring
Acres subdivision or on
Amesbury Road have another
thought coming.
That's the message the town
council of Grover sent Monday
night when they adopted a new
ordinance prohibiting such ac-
tions. :
“We've had restrictions on
tractor-trailer parking in those
areas for years,” said Grover
mayor Bill Favell. “Now we
have an ordinance to back it
u Pid
Fhe new ordinance will re-
. strict “usage and travel by trac-
tor-trailer combinations and to
restrict parking on those streets
and street right of ways by all
commercial vehicles. This
would exclude vehicles making
a pick up or delivery.”
Streets in Spring Acres that
fall under the new ruling in-
clude Springdale, lvy,
Timberland Brookwood,
Woodside, and Briarcliff. New
signage will also be erected to
help enforce the rule.
In other business at
Monday's council meeting,
Robert Hunt reported that a
move was finally underway to
acquire a one acre lot off Hardin
Circle for a Grover town library.
The Library Association will
purchase the land, then lease it
back to Grover.
- Grover’s town park also got
some attention at Monday's
council meeting. Due to van-
dalism at the facility, work has
started on removing several
trees that were blocking the
view of the picnic shelter. It
was also announced that a new
flood light will be installed on
the shelter for better illumina-
tion.
In a special ceremony, Grover
mayor Bill Favell read a procla-
mation to city clerk Barbara
Barrett on her fine work for the
city. The proclamation was in
reference to therecent =~
Municipal Clerk Week, April
30-May 6.
Grover’s railroad crossings
were part of councilman John
Higginbotham's street report.
Higginbotham was planning a
meeting with Don Reese of the
N.C.DOT and asked his fellow
councilmen for input. The poor
lighting and condition of the
edges of the crossings were a
major subject.
Citizen Edith Morgan ad-
dressed the council on what she
should do about landscaping
the spot in from of City Hall
where a large tree had been re-
moved. Morgan was appointed
by the Grover Woman's Club to
check into the job.
“What type of flowers or
shrubs would you like?”
Morgan asked council.
After much discussion, it was
decided to go with some dwarf
nandinas and varieties of annu-
al flowers. :
