The second annual Old-Time Jubilee Tent Revival will be held May 28-June 1 at 7 p.m. each evening in a spacious tent that seats up to 750 people. It could be packed, as the church staff this year has recruited a host of local preachers and gospel singing groups to keep the congregation in a foot- stomping, hand-clapping, amen-shouting mood in the grandest style of that good old-time reli- gion. Well over 100 volunteers will be involved in the effort, with duties ranging from parking to serv- ing as ushers to nursery workers to leaders of in- tercessory prayer groups to clean-up crews. Anyone in the community can volunteer by call- ing the church at 739-4152. Speakers and singers include: Sunday night - Rev. John Houze, pastor of People’s Baptist Church, Kings Mountain; and Cross Reference, a popular local gospel group from Christian Freedom. Monday - Rev. Barry Philbeck, pastor of Love Valley Baptist Church; and The Greenes of Boone,, trios in Southern Gospel. They have had over 20 * top 40 releases. : Tuesday - Rev. Doug Ramsey, pastor of Bethany Baptist Church Grover; and The Enlighteners, a blind gospel duo from Concord who began singing as college roommates. Wednesday - Rev. Mike Dixon, pastor of Second Baptist Church, Kings Mountain; and Christian Freedom's pastor, Mike Chambers. Thursday - Rev. Steve Waters, pastor of Patterson Springs Baptist Church; and The Whisnants of Morganton, another popular Southern Gospel group that has been touring for over 30 years. They have had seven songs in the top 40, two in the top 20, and their most recent re- lease, “I'll Stand for The Lord,” is in the top 10. 9% - APY 25-Month CD/IRA -widely recognized as.one of the most-popular—..g... Cov GARY STEWART / THE HERALD This tent which will accommodate up to 750 people will come alive with good preaching and singing May 28-June 1 when Christian Freedom Baptist Church near Kings Mountain hosts its second annual Jubilee Tent Revival. Under the Big Top Christian Freedom Baptist Church sets 2nd annual Jubilee Tent Revival In addition, the Christian Freedom Choir and a combination choir from churches all over the area will present special music. Anyone wishing to sing in the combination choir should plan to at- tend at 6:30 p.m. for choir practice. Greg Moore, minister of music and youth, said the idea for a tent revival began last year when Curt Hollifield, singer and manager of Cross Reference, began discussing ways to organize a gigantic gospel singing. “He used to go to a Wesleyan Church, and re- - membered that their denomination had a big tent that they rented out, so we rented it and never took it back,” he said. “We bought it.” The church now uses the tent for the spring re- vival, Vacation Bible School, other special events, and homecoming. It takes 30 people about five hours to assemble and disassemble the tent, and although it’s hard work Moore says it’s a way to get people in- volved in the ministry. “It gets our church working together and also involves other churches in the community work- ing together for the same cause,” he said. Moore encourages worshippers to dress casual- ly. Child care will be provided at no cost. Love of- ferings will be taken during the services to hel > 4 ) EE Do ha dogma eben st ao cee eo] “The tent is not hot. We roll up the sides and there’s usually a good cool breeze blowing through,” he said. Last year’s average attendance was over 500 a night, Moore said, including many people from out of town. There were 18 professions of faith. Christian Freedom was organized in 1977 with less than 20 members and now numbers over 600. The church holds two morning worship services on Sunday, at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m., and recently began an 11 a.m. Wednesday service which is well-attended. The church will embark on a building program this summer to add-more edu- cational spaces. Rev. Chambers has served as the pastor for sev- en years With a substantially higher return than a money market account, a CCB CD or IRA is a safe and secure investment.
