coming to KM Gazebo
Beach Blast 2000 is coming to
the new downtown Kings
Mountain gazebo Saturday,
June 10, beginning at 3 p.m.
“The Blast is sponsored by KM
Pools and the Kings Mountain
Business and Professional
Association.
Admission to the event is free
of charge and will feature the
popular combo Ocean Blvd.
Other fun at Beach Blast 2000
will include Dance magic per-
forming at 3 p.m., a Teenie
Weenie Bikini Contest for the
tots at 4 p.m., dedication of the
new Kings Mountain mural at 5
p.m. complete with musket fir-
ing by reenactors, Ocean Blvd.
playing at 5 p.m., and a Shag
Contest at 6:30 p.m.

Alzheimer’s group
at KM Senior Center
The Alzheimer’s Association
Carolina Piedmont Chapter will
host an Alzheimer’s Support
Group meeting Monday, June
12, at 7 p.m. at the Kings
Mountain Senior Center, 301 N.
Piedmont Avenue.
The program will feature Don
Cannon, Corporate Pharmacist
for White Oak Manor. Cannon
will be discussing new drug
treatments for Alzheimer’s
Disease. Family, friends, and
caregivers of Alzheimer’s pa-
tients are encouraged to attend.

ASU chancellor's list
Emily Britte Anthony and
Adelaide Blanche Moschler,
both of Kings Mountain, made
the Chancellors list for the
spring semester at Appalachian
State University.
To make the list, one must be
enrolled fora minimum of 12
hours of academic credit and at-
tain a 3.85 grade point average.

Stacey Phillips named
to All-Conference team
Freshman pitcher /first base-
man Stacey Phillips of First
Assembly Christian Academy
was named team most valuable
player and All-Conference in
softball this spring.
She posted 47 strikeouts, an
average of 1.1 per inning. She
pitched a no-hitter against
Trinity, and also had 11 strike-
outs in four innings in the first
game. She struck out eight bat-
ters in five innings in a tourna-
ment game against Gaston
Daya nd struck out the last nine _
outs in a tournament game
against VCC.
She had a batting average of
.605 and also had 13 stolen
bases.
Optimist cheerleading
registration scheduled
Registration for Kings
Mountain Optimist Club cheer-
leading is scheduled for
Saturday, May 27 and Saturday,
June 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at
City Stadium.
The registration fee is $140
per child ($110 for second child
in the same family). The fee in-
cludes a cheerleading uniform,
jacket, pom poms, duffel bag
and hair bow.
There will be three cheerlead-
ing squads for ages 5-12.

Booster Club recently elected
officers for the 2000-01 athletic
year.
Officers include Tommy

treasurer.

Christa Hicks, a senior at
Crest High School, is the
McDonald’s/WOHS Scholar-
Athlete of the Month for May.
Christa plays second base, third
base and catcher for the Crest
softball team, and also played
on the Crest volleyball team.
She carries a 4.579 grade
point average. She plans to at-
tend Appalachian State
University and major in
Athletic Training and obtain a
Master's in Physical Therapy.

Soccer camps set
in Kings Mountain
The annual Foothills Soccer
Camp has been scheduled for
the weeks of June 12-16 and
July 10-14 in Kings Mountain.
A co-ed camp will be held
from 9 a.m.-12 noon in July and
an advanced individual skill
camp will be held from 6:30-8
p-m. in June. Players receive in-
struction from Dan Potter,
KMHS women’s soccer coach,
and David Steeles, the Shelby
High men’s and women’s
coach.
