Ask about ous: LAURA JANET FALLS KINGS MOUNTAIN - Laura Janet Falls, 96, 160 Patterson Road, died Monday, June 5, +2000 at White Oak Manor. A na- tive of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Price and Sarah Elizabeth Patterson Falls. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lenora Falls, who died as a child, and Eunice Falls Ware; and brothers, Butler, Wade, Cyrus, Rufus, Coman and Carl Falls. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was a public school teacher for 42 years. She was President and Best All Around Debater of the Aycock Society at Kings Mountain’s Central High School. She pursued her teaching de- gree at Winthrop College, and studied during the summers at UNC-Chapel Hill, the University of Tennessee, Asheville Teacher's College, Appalachian State University and The Sorbonne in Paris. She taught French and History and coached drama, readings and debate at Mooresboro High School for 11 years and at Charlotte for 17 years. After teaching the sixth grade at Gastonia for two years, she returned to Kings Mountain to care for her elderly mother and taught sixth grade at North School for 12 years before retir- ing. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa international hon- orary teacher’s sorority of which she was a member of Shelby’s Sigma Chapter for 12 years and Beta Chi Chapter for 18 years. She was a 25-year member of the Thursday Afternoon Book Club, Kings Mountain's oldest social club. -.She traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, Africa, eight of the ten Canadian provinces, . and almost all of the states of | America. Ab Central United Methodist Church, she taught the Sally Fulton Bible Class for 10 years, was chairperson of the Commissions on Missions and chairperson of the Committee on History and Records. She served as Secretary and Treasurer of Circle #1 and as a Vacation Bible School teacher. She wrote the history of the church and of the United Methodist Women. After visit- ing the Bible lands in the Middle East and the mission fields in West Indies, she at- tended the mission school at Pfeiffer College. In 1995 she wrote and pub- lished her family’s memoirs en- titled “The Falls of Oaklawn.” She is survived by her broth- er, Alvin Hugh Falls of Kings Mountain; and 45 nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Harrison Hinson at ‘3 p.m. Thursday at Central. United Methodist Church. Burial will be in El Bethel United Methodist Church ceme- tery.
