A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late W.L. Erwood and the late Gertrude Jones Erwood. She was also predeceased by her son, Danny K. Payne, and her brother, Carl Creedmore of Gastonia. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She is survived by her daugh- ter, Jean Marie Porter and hus- band, Tim L. Porter of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Michael and Nathan Porter of Virginia Beach, VA; and sisters, Jennie Erwood Lynn and Jane Erwood Martin, both of Kings Mountain. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Benjamin and Florida Hopper Hudson, and wife of the late Oscar Cleo Short. She was a charter mem- ber of Second Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Craftspun Mills. She is survived by her daugh- ters, Teresa Short Stacey and husband, Ronnie, of Shelby and Judy Short Grindstaff and hus- band, Ralph, of Kings Mountain; granddaughters, Paula Grindstaff Lawrence and husband, Danny, of Gastonia; and great-granddaughters, Heather, Holly and Erika Lawrence, all of Gastonia. MICHAEL BENNETT BLACKSBURG, SC - Michael Jacob Bennett, 53, 222 Jones Street, formerly of Shelby, died June 27, 2000 at Carolinas Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Henry Wilson Bennett Jr. He was employed as a truck driver with Conway Truck Load Service and was a mem- ber of Dover Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Cherryville High School. He coached the Marion School football team, American Legion baseball and in the City Park Baseball League. SHELBY - Zeb Vance Blanton Jr., 82, 424 Poplar Springs Church Road, died June 28, 2000 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Zeb Vance Blanton Sr. and Ollie J. Blanton. He was also predeceased by his daughters, Mary and Martha Blanton; son, Zeb Vance Blanton III; brothers, Carl Blanton, Don Blanton, Glenn Blanton and Charles Blanton; and sisters, Louise : 3. Hamrick, Beuna Hamrick, Thelma Blanton and Ethel McMurry. He was a retired salesman for Pilot Life Insurance Company and retired operator of Village Pantry. He was a lifelong member of Sharon United Methodist Church and the Adult Sunday School class. He was Lay Person of the Year in 1990, United Methodist Men's President in 1989-1999, Sunday g School Supt., Administrative Council 1981-2000 and chair- man from 1981-85, Lay Leader from 1976-77, Trustee from 1984-88, District Officer, and al- so served on various commit- tees. He is survived by his wife, Susie C. He moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1962 and had resided there for 37 years.
