Mn Ales 3 i i ALAN HODGE/THE HERALD members Woman's Club holds festival BY ALAN HODGE Staff Writer Drawn by lovely flowers and the beckoning aroma of home ¢ .. , cooked food, crowds flocked to the Kings Mountain Woman's Club for their annual Fall Festival last Wednesday. The. event theme was “Salute the + Millennium-Vote!” Tiers or, Luncheon and dinner in vast .; .. quantities was served by thes, .. Woman's Club to over 600 ea- later, patrons of the event feasted on succulent turkey, col- orful and tangy slaw, glistening green beans, and fluffy rolls. Icy, amber colored tea washed the sumptuous feast into empty stomachs. Homemade desserts, . .. plucked the final chords on, ; what was by all accounts a veri- table symphony of salivary salutation. “I'm stuffed,” was the cry of MIN all who pushed themselves from the table. i+ .- Upstairs, the clubhouse was awash with the colors of a wide variety of floral arrangements. ~ Niches on either side of the ,. main room featured imagina- tiye and thoughtful bouquets. Several local garden clubs had -entries in the show. Among - them were the Magnolia Garden Club, Open Gate Garden Club, and Town and Country Garden Club. Center niche entry was fashioned by Judy Whisnant and featured a photo of her father in his World War II uniform, as well as let- ters that her grandfather wrote home from France in World War L. The floral arrangement in- cluded dark red dried sumac pods and yellow daisies placed in a bronze colored earthenware ug. : on stage in the clubhouse there were several dozen fresh cut flowers on display. y Arranged on shelves, the posies ran the gamut in color from rich golden yellow to vibrant red. = Species included pansies, hibis- cus, marigold, and geranium. Total floral entries this year topped 150. : Artwork and crafts were also on the scene at the Fall Festival. Besides work by club members and citizens, others groups that had creations on display includ- Three-year-old Erin Neisler even entered an imaginative Jack O Lantern made out of a milk jug.
