Page 2A OBITUARIES : BUD BALLARD KINGS MOUNTAIN - Thomas “Bud” Ballard, 72, 304 Garrison Drive, died December 23, 2000 at his home. A native of | Gaston County, he was the son of the late George Dewitt and Eva Crawford Ballard. He was also pre- deceased by his brother, David Allen Ballard. He was retired from BellSouth with 40 years of ser- vice, and was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Usher, Audio Technician, and Sunday School teacher. He.was a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the White Plains Shrine Club, a member of the:BellSouth ; Pioneers, served onthe Board of Adjustments for the City of Kings Mountain, and was a for- mer Reserve Police Officer for the City of Kings:Mountain for 20 years. He served in the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife, Dorene;Ross Ballard of Kings Mountain; son, Thomas Jeffrey Ballard of Gastonia; daughter, Anne B. Clark and husband, Claude; of Kings Mountain; brothers, Hurley Ballard and Chouvis Ballard of Bessemer City; and three grandchildren, Hanna Clark, Ross Clark, and Payton Clark. The funeral was conducted by Dr. John Sloan at 2 p.m. . Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Taide Of (GSO ANDY HUFFSTETLER KINGS MOUNTAIN - Andy Huffstetler, 80, of EdenGardens Assisted Living Center, 1101 Phifer Road, died Sunday, December 25, 2000 at his resi- dence. A native of Cleveland County he was the son of the late Forrest H. Huffstetler and Aquilla Ray Ham Huffstetler, and husband of the late Star Kale Huffstetler. He was a member of Maylo United Methodist Church in Ranlo for 31 years and was a member of the C.E. Wilson Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Army vet- eran of World War II, and was retired from Rex Mills 1 and 2 in Ranlo. He is survived by his daugh- ters and son-in-law, Andrea Beason and Patty and Randy Cash, all of Kings Mountain; brother, William Leonard Huffstetler of Kings Mountain; sisters, Iva Mae Henson, Margaret Huffstetler, Ailene Huffstetler, Helen Jennings, and Gertie Bumgardner, all of Kings Mountain; and grandson, Chip Cash of Gastonia. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Boyce Huffstetler and Doug Allen at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Maylo United Methodist Church in Ranlo. Damage to his vehicle was $3,000. A vehicle driven by William Creech Jr. of Greensboro slid on the ice on the bridge at the 1-85 en- trance ramp and hit the bridge, causing $5,000 damage to his vehi- cle. Vehicles driven by Robert Stephens and Elaine Ross, both of Kings Mountain, struck in the park- ing lot of BB&T on U.S. 74 Business. Damage to the Ross car was $1,000. There was no damage to the Stephens car. Vehicles driven by Micheal Adams and Alice Williamson, both of Kings Mountain, struck on U.S. 74 at Cansler St. Damage to the Adams vehicle was $1,000 and damage to the Williamson car was $500. Adams was charged with fail- ing to stop at a flashing red light. A vehicle driven by Joseph Meadows of Cherryville backed in- to a parked vehicle owned by Phillip Laughridge in the parking lot of Parker’s Amaco. Damage to the Meadows car was $200 and damage to the Laughridge car was $400. A vehicle driven by Jacqueline Walker of Washington, DC hit an icy spot on I-85 South near ~ Canterbury Road, causing the car to hit a guard rail, then spin around and hit an embankment. Damage to the car was $500.
