The business is owned by Dr. Deepak Gelot. Internet service to open in KM BY ALAN HODGE Staff Writer In a few weeks, Kings Mountain will become the home to a new, locally owned and operated Internet service provider. Named GlobalUSA Online, the business is located at 709 W. King Street, across from Kings Mountain Hospital, and is set to begin service in mid-February. Owner is Dr. Deepak Gelot. Technicians Chris Young, Raymond McHone, and Shawn Davis will handle the computer end of the business. Together they have nearly 40 years of combined computer experience. According to Young, GlobalUSA Online will be the only Internet server between Hickory and Charlotte. Besides offering the online connection, the company will also havea program where people can come into the GlobalUSA office and learn to surf the web. Tech support is also local. Initially, GlobalUSA Online will have the capability to serve 500 customers. Upgrades and expanded hardware and soft- ware will increase that figure in time. In addition, GlobalUSA will provide a better user to modem ratio than larger companies. Young said that the company will have less than 10 customers per phone line as opposed to the 25 or more per line for firms like America Online. Backing up the GlobalUSA Online systems in case of a power outage is a two hour bat- tery reserve as well as a genera- tor. For more information, call 704-730-0150 or visit the GlobalUSA Online website at www.globalusaonline.com.
