~ March 15, 2001 SRR RRS The Kings Mountain Herald Page 5A ERR KM POLICE REPORT Chase ends in wreck, arrest Cleon Ware, 30, of Bessemer City was charged with assault with a deadly weapon against a government official, felony speeding to elude arrest, driv- 1 ing while impaired, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving, and speeding 100 in a 35 zone fol- lowing a Saturday accident on Margrace Road. He was arrest- ed under a $15,000 secured bond. According to a report filed by .. Ptl. B.S. Biletnikoff and Cpl. Skinner, the vehicle was trying to flee police when it left the road on the right side and struck a highway sign and a small tree. The officers said the vehicle then crossed the high- way and left the road again on the left side, traveled about 200 feet along the shoulder and ditch and hit another highway sign and another tree. Damage to highway signs was $75. . WRECKS Vehicles driven by Mae Pugh of Charlotte and Edward Deal of Clover, SC struck on 74 Business at Highway 161. Damage to the Pugh vehicle was $2,500 and damage to the Deal vehicle was $2,000. Pugh was cited for entering an inter- section while a stop light was red. Wednesday, March 21 - Waco Rd. at Nebo Hill /Sims St. Shelby man faces charges in escape Cleveland County Sheriff's Department has charged Kenneth Wesley Strong, 44, of Shelby with obstructing justice and aiding and abetting the March 3 escape of Larrick Evan Degree of Shelby. Degree was being held in Cleveland County Detention Center on numerous charges in- cluding assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodi-- ly injury, escape and other charges. Captain Billy Benton of the Sheriff's Department said Degree escaped custody after assuming the identity of anoth- er inmate being held in the County Detention Center. Benton said Strong posted the bond for Degree on March 7 while Degree was posing as Samuel Anderson. . Benton said Anderson was al- so charged with aiding and abetting the escape of Degree. Degree was last known to be in North Charleston, SC and is still on the run from authorities, Benton said. Strong is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center in lieu of a $15,000 se- cured bond.
