KM Lightning play in weekend tourney Kings Mountain Lightning, a 12-under girls fast-pitch softball team, went 0-3 in a tournament last weekend in Salisbury. Several KM players did well at the plate, including Tianna Whitaker who hit .429, Brittney Thornburg .375, Laura Weigel .333, Jordan Childers .500, Morgan Childers .250, and Amber Millwood .286. Kings Mountain pitchers walked only three batters in the three games. Kristyn Funderburke walked ‘one and struck out four in the opening round loss to the Raptors, 7-0. JV soccer team beats Raiders 5-0 Kings Mountain High's JV girls soccer team ended its sea- son Monday with a 5-0 victory over South Point’s Red Raiders. Raquel Welsh led the Mountaineers with three goals. Ashton Teague and Katie Dowda scored one goal apiece. Kelly Mattox recorded the shutout at goal. “Elizabeth Logan, Kristen Ammay, Amanda Shannon, and Maria Peralta played some awe- some defense for the Mounties all season,” said Coach Amanda Johnsonbaugh. “I was very pleased to see the development of the players from the begin- ning of the season to right now.
