Gold St., Sunday, April 29 1 pm - 5 pm f The Kings Mountain Herald and stole a cell phone valned at $150 and a charger/ cord valued at $40. Vickey Hardison, 101 Fulton Dr., reported a house fire at 101 Fulton Dr. An electrical mal- function was cited as the cause. There was an undetermined amount of damage to the ceil- ing and back of the residence. Joseph Johnson of Bessemer City and Josh Mull of Clover, SC, reported that someone broke into a vehicle while it was parked at Dyemasters on Countryside Dr. and stole vari- ous items including collectible baseball caps, compact discs, CD player, amplifier, stereo, currency, and personal tools. The total value of items stolen was $726.50. Damage to the ve- hicle was $900. Dena Pittman, 810 Gantt St., reported that a shopping cart hit her vehicle at Harris Teeter on E. King St. Damage to the car was $100. Oliva Lipscomb, 612 Charles St. Apt. 80, reported larceny of a firearm valued at $150. Linwood Auto Sales, 512 Linwood Rd., reported theft of checks. Arhonda Carter, 611 Gantt St., reported larceny of a canoe. WRECKS A vehicle driven by Janice Rogers of Arden struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Tina Costner of Kings Mountain on U.S. 74 Business at Kings Mountain Blvd. Damage to the Rogers vehicle was $1,000 and damage to the Costner vehicle was $300. Vehicles driven by Charles Putnam of Shelby and Mary Bennett of Kings Mountain struck in the parking lot of Kings Mountain High. Damage to the Bennett vehicle was $400. There was no damage to the Putnam vehicle which is owned by the City of Kings Mountain. Vehicles driven by Franklin Powell of Archdale and Sherry Anderson of Ellenwood, GA struck on I-85 at Dixon School Rd. Damage to the Powell vehi- cle was $600 and damage to the Anderson vehicle was $700. , Vehicles driven by Tammy ik homas and Leanne Deviney, Jnrie NO Y, plate. Tq rand both of Kings Mountain, struck in the parking area of Food Lion. Damage to each vehicle was $500. A vehicle driven by Brian Houze of Kings Mountain hit the rear of a vehicle driven by and Donald Dimmer of Kings Mountain on E. King St. at Gaston St. Damage to the Houze vehicle was $1,200 and damage to the Dimmer vehicle was $800. Vehicles driven by Walter Weaver of Kings Mountain and Tott Griffin of Shelby struck on U.S. 74 Business at Spring St. Damage to the Weaver vehicle was $2,000 and damage to the Griffin vehicle was $4,000. A tractor-trailer driven by Shawn Ray of Johnson City, IL jackknifed on U.S. 74 Bypass at I-85 North. Damage to the truck was $2,000. There were no in- juries. The driver told police he “had to lock his brakes to avoid striking a vehicle which cut in front of him. The other. vehicle KM POLICE REPORTS did not stop. Vehicles driven by Di Wang and Angela Montgomery, both of Kings Mountain, struck in the parking lot of Family Dollar on Piedmont Ave. Damage to the Wang car was $500 and damage to the Montgomery car was $800. Vehicles driven by Eugene Borders of Shelby and Na’Tonya Houser of Kings Mountain struck on North Cansler St. at Barnett Dr. Damage to the Borders vehicle, owned by the City of Kings Mountain, was $800. Damage to the Houser vehicle was $1,800. Vehicles driven by Ralph Cronan and Ronald Ballew, both of Kings Mountain, struck on NC 216 at Linwood Road. Damage to the Cronan vehicle was $400 and damage to the Ballew vehicle was $600. Cronan was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a colli- sion. Students speak to kids Students from Kings Mountain High School recently accompanied D.A RE. officers to Bethware and Grover ele- mentary schools to talk to fifth graders about peer pressure. The fifth grade students will be going into a new middle school experience next year and had a lot of concerns about peer pressure, drugs, smoking, and the need for positive role mod- els. “The emphasis of D.A.R.E. is to help students recognize and resist the many pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol and drugs,” said D.A.R.E. Officer J.D. Buff of the Kings Mountain Police New KM officers sworn in Wednesday Kings Mountain Mayor Rick Murphrey swore in two new police officers Wednesday at City Hall. Lori Ann Wrenn, a native of i Philadelphia, PA who has lived in the Kings Mountain area since 1995, was previously an officer with Gastonia City Police Department. Lori and her husband, Scott, raise and show Quarter and Paint horses. Tony Walker, a Gaston County native, formerly worked for the York County Sherift’s Department. He and his wife, Michelle, have three children, Kiera, 5, and twins Jalen and Justin, 18 months. In his spare time, Walker enjoys fishing.
