Page 2A ER AR OBITUARIES The Kings Mountain Herald JAKE BRIDGES KINGS MOUNTAIN - Jake Hord Bridges, 88, 1115 Sparrow Springs Road, died July 17, 2001 at Eden Gardens. He was the son of the late Landum and Ida Mae Burton Bridges, and husband of the late Ethel Mae Mullinax Bridges. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James A. Bridges and Manuel Smith. He was a member of Carson Memorial Baptist Church. He was retired from AB Carter af- ter 40 years service, and retired from The Printin’ Press with 20 years service. He was an avid bowler, hunter, American Legion baseball fan, and attend- ed the American Legion World Series in Las Vegas in 1998. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Brenda Bridges and Ed and June Bridges, all of Kings Mountain; daughter and son-in- law, Juanita and Bill Swindell of Kings Mountain; eight grand- children and 17 great-grandchil- dren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Wayne Kirk and Dr. Ernest Childs at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greene Funeral Service, Westside Chapel. Burial was in Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. Timms, 47, of Dayton, TN, for- merly of Kings Mountain, died July 18, 2001 at Erlanger Hospital, Chattanooga, TN. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Audrey Timms. He was a mem- ber of Macedonia Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Earl R. and Jessie B. Timms of Winter Haven, FL; brother, Alan Timms and wife Mary of Sugar Hill, GA; nephew, Matthew Timms; and niece, Amanda Timms. A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. David Turner at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mountain Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. WALTER KING WADESBORO - Walter Coyt King, 88, formerly of Lancaster, SC died July 8, 2001 at Heritage Hills Nursing Home. A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late George Thomas and Ollie Reele King. He was retired as Senior Engineer with Santee Cooper in Moncks Corner, SC and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, SE, He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sadie Davis King; and nephew, John Dilling of Kings Mountain. BELLE RUFF BARKER KINGS MOUNTAIN - Belle Ruff Barker, 94, 1612 Shelby Road, formerly of Troutman, died July 18, 2001 at White Oak Manor. A native of Bessemer City, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Lafayette and Laura Luellen Carver Ruff. She was the wife of the late Dewey Watson Barker. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters She was a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. She was retired from American Threads, Troutman, and was a homemaker. She is survived by her daugh- ters, Anna Barker Loudermilk and husband Talmage of Taylorsville and Barbara B. Tindall and husband Thomas Tindall Sr. of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren, Thomas D. Tindall Jr. and wife Lynn of Kings Mountain, Christopher Tindall and wife Cindy of Fallston, Greg Tindall and wife Jan of Kings Mountain, David Loudermilk of Taylorsville, and Danny Loudermilk and wife Jeanne of Taylorsville; seven great-grandchildren, Candace Loudermilk, Jenell Loudermilk, Christopher Loudermilk, Leistey Tindall, Lane Tindall, Christa Tindall and Jana Tindall; and one great-great- grandchild, Seth Alexander Bruton of Hickory. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late H.F. and Josie Poteat Champion. She was a home- maker and a Baptist. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Minda C. Francis and Elvie C. Pearson. She is survived by her hus- band of 53 years, Elmer M. Gladden of the home; son, Dennis Clark of Grover; grand- son, Rodney Gene Clark and wife Tammy 9of Belwood; and granddaughter, Emily Nicole Clark. A graveside service was con- ducted by the Rev. ANNIE DRUMMOND KINGS MOUNTAIN - Annie Baughman Drummond, 94, White Oak Manor, died July 19, 2001 at White Oak Manor. A native of Dorset, OH, she was the daughter of the late John and Cordie Baughman, and wife of the late Robert Drummond. She was also pre- ceded in death by her brother, Howard Baughman, and sisters, Sadie Herau and Ada Stimson. She worked as a telephone operator and a beautician. Arrangements will be an- nounced by Harris Funeral Home. MARGIE SWANSON LENOIR - Margie Tesseneer Swanson, 67, 7510 Carolina Circle, died July 20, 2001 at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Mamie Sigmon Tesseneer and the late Frank Tesseneer. She received her Registered Nursing degree from Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked for Rowan Memorial Hospital. She also did private nursing. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Caldwell County. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Teresa Ann McElroy of Columbus, GA; son, Dr. Paul Joseph Swanson Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA; sisters, Dot Humphreys and Joyce Tesseneer of Kings Mountain, Marilyn Smith of Charlotte and Suzie Morris of Salisbury; granddaughter, Caroline McElroy of Columbus, GA; and ‘three grandsons. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Ray Prince at 12:30 p-m. Sunday at Hampton Funeral Home, Boone. A grave- side service was held at 3:30 p-m. at Rowan Memorial Park. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Edward Bell and Ethel Hullender Bell. He was also preceded in death by his son, Bruce Bell; brothers, Jonas Bell and William “Bud” Bell; and sister, Freida Bell. He was retired from Dicey Fabrics and was a self-em- ployed carpenter. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Deborah Bell of Boiling Springs; daughter, Susan Bell of the home; brother, Manuel Bell of Grover; sister, Fern Crawford of Shelby; grandchildren, Shannon Causby, Nikki Bell, Tiffney Bell and Cassie Anthony; great- grandson, Joey Grant; step- grandchildren, Amber Roberts ' and Clay Spivey; step great- grandson, Dalton Bennett; nieces and nephews; special niece Cindi Clark; and special friend, Bob Ledford. Jeanette “Jackie” Harry Rountree, 81, 156 Rountree Road, Grover, died July 25, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Grover, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Effie Jeanette Holmes Harry Sr. She was also preceded in death by her hus- band, Glenn Ross Rountree; brothers, Charles Franklin, Harry Jr. and Brice Holmes Harry; and son, Charles Glenn Rountree. She was a homemaker and a former public school teacher. She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. She was immediate Past President of the Grover Area Women’s Club, member of the Cleveland County Historical Society, former member of the Cleveland County Board of Elections, former member of the Red Cross, and received the Cleveland County Woman of the Year Award for 2000. Minette Mills in Grover was named in part after her. She was also co-founder of the first Girl Scout troop in Grover, was a former member of Kings Mountain Little Theater, and was involved in the Eastern Star. She was a 1936 graduate of Blacksburg High School, a 1940 graduate of the Women’s College and a member of the Women's College Alumni Association. She was editor of the Grover Rover newsletter. She is survived by her sons, William Harry Rountree and wife Jane of Mt. Airy, and Joel Ross Rountree and wife Patsy of Grover; daughters, Jaquitha Rountree Reid and husband Jim of Kings Mountain, and Holly Rountree Godfrey and husband Paul of Grover; brothers, David L. Harry of Grover and W.B. Harry of Shelby; sisters, Frances Barrier of Davidson and Sydelle Uzzell of Asheville; grandchil- dren, Jennifer Reid Hollifield and husband Aubrey of Kings Mountain, Jonathan William * Reid and wife Melinda of York, SC, Laura Rountree Winter and husband Bill of Raleigh, Brandon Taft Oberby of Mt. July 26, 2001 School counselors to meet with public Kings Mountain High School counselors and principals will meet With all upcoming ninth grade students and their par- ents Monday, July 30 at 6 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church Family Life Center. Parent Charlotte Pettis said the purpose of the meeting is to make sure students are on the “right path” as they enter their high school career.
