fags 2A JAMES RUFUS HALE KINGS MOUNTAIN - James Rufus Hale, 77, 1715 Shelby Road, died July 25, 2001 at White Oak Manor. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Walter and Ethel Proctor Hale. He was also preceded in death by a son, Gene Hale; sisters, Estelle Marr and Sue Dunn; and brother, Richard Hale. He was retired owner-opera- tor of James Superette in Bessemer City. He was a mem- ber of Westover Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Franks Hale of the home; sons, Donald Hale and wife Shirley of Kings Mountain, and Ray Hale and wife Kristy; step- sons, Ronnie Franks and wife Rita, and Terry Franks and wife Kim, all of Kings Mountain; and brothers, Darrell Hale of Gastonia and Glenn Hale of Decatur, AL. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Larry Haskins and Clint Day at 3 p.m. Friday at Harris Memorial Chapel. PATTERSON SPRINGS - Hugh Joshua Dillingham Jr., 82, 1817 South Post Road, died July 28, 2001 at his home. A native of Largo, FL, he was the son of the late Joshua OBITUARIES Dillingham Sr. and Annie Jones Dillingham. He was also pre- ceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Hollifield Dillingham; and brother, Howard Delly Dillingham. He was retired as service manager for Porter Brothers. He was former mayor of Patterson Springs and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, Sunday School superinicindent, and member of numerous commit- tees. He waz a U.S. Army veter- an of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Bridges McSwain Dillingham of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Hugh Joshua Dillingham III and Connie of Houston, TX; daugh- ter, Nancy Dillingham of Tampa, FL; daughter and son- in-law, Susan and Pete Hawkins of Grover; step-daughters, Carolyn McSwain and Patty McCarthur and husband Tom, all of Shelby; brother, Don Dillingham and wife Carolyn of Grover; sisters, Ruby Camp of Lawndale and Carolyn Hamrick and husband Carroll of Shelby; 11 grandchildren and - five great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Todd Bolin at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Benton and Audrey Ware Putnam. She was also pre- ceded in death by her husband, Wray Augustus Plonk Sr.; and sisters, Zoe Hill and Nina Welsh. She was retired from Cherryville Savings and Loan as an Internal Auditor. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of The American Revolution, and was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Kings Mountain. She is survived by her son, Wray A. Plonk Jr. of Kings Mountain; daughters, Sandra Plonk Bumgardner and Linda Plonk Jester, both of Kings Mountain, and Jeanne Plonk Beam and husband David Carlyle Beam of Cherryville; grandchildren, Tim Plonk and wife Rebecca and Kelly Plonk Treece and husband Dale, all of Kings Mountain; Terry B. On August 4 CIS members will be at the Winn Dixie in Kings Mountain, Ingles in Boiling Springs and Wal-Mart in Shelby to collect supplies. June Noe, with WSOC-TV in Charlotte, said in a release that the project's goal is to reach 30,000 children. : The drive is part of a month long project called “Family Focus” that the television sta- tion has sponsored for 11 years. Donations will be taken all year whether itis the needed items or ‘money. ! “Students need to be able to start school with the needed supplies just like their class- mates,” a CIS release said. Supplies affect more than children. Teachers need them also, Lindsey Goodall said. “Well children can’t learn without the proper equipment,” Goodall said. “And teachers can’t teach without them ei- ther.” Goodall, the CIS site coordi- nator at Kings Mountain Middle School said approxi- mately 75. percent;of teachers spend,aportion aftheisown money on school supplies. The collected supplies will al- so be used for after school pro- grams. Items that can be donated are book bags, notebook paper, pencils, pens, crayons, scissors, small dictionaries, notebooks, glue sticks, rulers, protractors, pocket calculators, markers, pencil boxes, colored report covers/ folders, pencil boxes and erasers.
