Kings Mountain's 9-10 year- old Dixie Youth Minor League all-stars are World Series-bound after defeating perennial State Champion Columbus County 6- 4 and 3-0 in last weekend's State Championship finals at Biscoe. Kings Mountain fought back through the loser’s bracket after a narrow 3-2 loss to Hope Mills in the third round. KM avenged that defeat with a 9-1 win over Hope Mills in their Zone cham- pionship game. The World Series will be played August 13-19 at Bedford, VA. Kings Mountain's first game will be at 8 p.m. Monday, August 13 against the Texas State Champions. Kings Mountain posted a 7-1 record at Biscoe, defeating Clinton 13-1, Albemarle 9-4, Mar-Mac 8-1, West Stanley 7-1 in addition to the victories over Hope Mills and Columbus County. Preston Lee led the hitting for the tournament with a .500 av- erage (12-for-24). He had seven runs batted in and scored 10 runs. Rai Robinson hit .333 (10-for- 30), drove in five runs and scored nine. Kyle Bell and Cody Smith also hit .333. Other averages were Tyler Ross .259, Stephen Butler .240, Jeffry Howell .280, Jamie York .188, Justin Heinbach .286, Cody Austin .260, Hogan Sellers .125, Daniel Moss .222, and Anthony Dalton .111.
