KM Crusaders win Coach Pitch Tourney at Martha Rivers Park Kings Mountain's 7-year-old Coach Pitch All-Stars are pictured above. Front row, left to right, The Kings Mountain Crusaders recently won the 7-8 year-old Coach Pitch Baseball Tournament at Martha Rivers Park in Gastonia. Kings Mountain posted a 6-0 record during the tournament. Samuel Dye led the hitting with a perfect 1.000 average (12-for-12), and Damian Hill hit .941 (16-for-17). Others over .500 included Brian Brian .842, Tyler Fletcher .867, Dylan Smith .789, Tanner Ross .769, Caron Pittman .750, Mitchell Cloninger .750, Austin Phillips .750, Micheal Homesley .667, Bubba Moss .692, Wil Sellers .667, and Tony . Walker .615. Kings Mountain defeated Belmont Reds 25-6, Cramerton 18-2, South Gastonia 15-0, St. Micheals 14-3, Lincolnton AAU 13-7, and the Gaston Hurricanes 8-7. In the opening game, Brian Brown was 3-for-4 with a triple, and Tyler Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a double. Dylan Smith and Micheal Homesley led Tanner Ross played good defense. Damien Hill went 3-for-3 in the win over South Gastonia.Michael Homesley played good defense at second base, and Bubba Moss did a good job behind the plate. Homesley was 3-for-3 with a double, and Smith was 2-for-e in the win over St. Michaels. Austin Phillips, Wil Sellers and Mitchell Cloninger played well defensively. Against Lincolnton, Pittman went 3-for-3 with a home run, and Austin Phillips was 2-for-3. Samuel Dye and Brian Brian led the defense. In the championship win over the Gaston Hurricanes, Tanner Ross and Tony Walker each went 2-for-2 and Dylan Smith and Micheal - Homesley came up with the big defensive plays. KM champions to Bedford, VA for AAA World Series Kings Mountain's 9-10 year- old Dixie Youth All-Stars will compete in the AAA World Series next week in Bedford, VA. The KM team recently defeat- ed Columbus County two games to none in the North Carolina State Championship series in Biscoe. Kings Mountain opens World Series play Monday at 8 p.m. against the Texas state champi- ons. If they win, the local all- stars will play again on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. against the win- ner of the Georgia-Virginia game. If they lose, they will play the loser of the Georgia- Virginia game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ) The tournament continues through Saturday, August 18.
