According to Cpl. R.S. Davis of the Kings Mountain Police Department, two men entered the store and pointed a rifle with a laser light attached to the front of it. They made the store employee, David Myers of Kings Mountain, and the three customers in the building at the time, get down on the floor. The customers were Michael McCullough of Dallas, John Kinley of Bessemer City, and Brent Williams of Kings Mountain. According to Davis, the rob- bers went around to each indi- vidual and removed money from their pockets, and then took money out of the cash drawer and left. Davis said it is believed the two men went around behind Griffin Drug and got into a car. There were no injuries. Davis said the first suspect is described as a Black male ap- proximately 5-10 and wearing a dark colored shirt and tan boots. The second suspect, Davis said, is described as about 6-1 with a thin build, and wearing a gray shirt. Both suspects were wearing bandannas on their head, Davis said. KM man charged for poker machines Cleveland County Sheriff's Office Monday arrested a Kings Mountain man for felony pos- session of poker machines. According to Sgt. Durwin J. Briscoe, Vernon Wayne Short of 186-1 Gage Road faces one count each of felony possession of poker machines, failure to register poker machines with the Sheriff's Office, failure to post stickers on poker ma- chines, and illegal operation and possession of video gaming machine for gambling... Short was jailed under a $2,000 secured bond. According to Briscoe, the Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at the Short resi- dence and seized five video poker machines which were lo- cated in an outbuilding. According to Briscoe, the ma- chines were not registered with the Sheriff's Office and were in working order. First Wesleyan wins church league tourney First Wesleyan Church won the post-season tournament in the Kings Mountain Area Church Softball League. First Wesleyan, coached by Toby Deaton, won all six of its games and defeated Richard Proctor’s Christian Freedom team 19-16'in the championship game.
